Four new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this week:

Expected to top the weekend box office is the shark thriller The Meg directed by Jon Turteltaub and starring Jason Statham, Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, Winston Chao, Page Kennedy, Robert Taylor and Sophia Shuya Cai. The film’s original music is composed by Harry Gregson-Williams (The Chronicles of NarniaShrekThe MartianKingdom of HeavenMan on Fire). Also opening wide is the supernatural horror thriller Slender Man directed by Sylvain White and starring Joey King, Julia Goldani-Telles, Jaz Sinclair, Annalise Basso and Javier Botet. Ramin Djawadi (Game of ThronesWestworldIron ManPacific RimClash of the Titans) and Brandon Campbell (The Thinning) have composed the film’s original score. Also opening nationwide is the drama BlacKkKlansman written and directed by Spike Lee and starring John David Washington, Adam Driver, Laura Harrier and Topher Grace. The film’s original music is composed by Terence Blanchard (Inside ManThe 25th HourMalcolm XRed Tails). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Already playing in theaters since this past Wednesday is the comedy Dog Days directed by Ken Marino and starring Nina Dobrev, Vanessa Hudgens, Adam Pally, Eva Longoria, Rob Corddry, Tone Bell, Jon Bass, Michael Cassidy, Finn Wolfhard and Ron Cephas Jones. Craig Wedren (The School of RockGLOWRole Models) and Matt Novack (They Came TogetherChildrens Hospital) have composed the film’s original score. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film by Wedren (feat. vocals by Jasmine Cephas Jones). Click here for the full album details.

Opening in limited release is the thriller A Prayer Before Dawn directed by Jean-Stephane Sauvaire and starring Joe Cole. The film’s original score is composed by Nicolas Becker (Lebanon). No word on a soundtrack album. The movie tells the true story of a young English boxer incarcerated in two of Thailand’s most notorious prisons. The thriller premiered at last year’s Cannes Film Festival and is being released in theaters and on VOD by A24 following its debut on DirecTV a couple of weeks ago.

Also opening in select theaters is the indie drama Skate Kitchen directed by Crystal Moselle and starring Rachelle Vinberg, Dede Lovelace, Nina Moran, Kabrina Adams, Ajani Russell, Jules Lorenzo, Brenn Lorenzo, Hisham Tawfiq, Elizabeth Rodriguez and Jaden Smith. Aska Matsumiya has composed the film’s original score. No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie revolves around an introverted teenage skateboarder from Long Island, who meets and befriends an all-girl, New York City-based skateboarding crew called Skate Kitchen. The drama premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is being released by Magnolia Picture. Visit the official movie website for more information.

Also opening in select cities is the sci-fi horror thriller Elizabeth Harvest written and directed by Sebastian Gutierrez and starring Abbey Lee, Carla Gugino, Ciaran Hinds, Matthew Beard and Dylan Baker. The film’s original music is composed by Rachel Zeffira of Cat’s Eyes. The movie premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and is being released in theaters and on VOD today by IFC Films.
