Premiering tomorrow, December 10, is the Freeform original movie No Sleep ‘Til Christmas co-written and directed by Phil Traill and starring Dave & Odette Annable, Charles Michael Davis. The film’s original music is composed by Jeff Garber (Lopez, Are You the One?). The holiday comedy centers on a bartender and a businesswoman who find they only have one thing in common: insomnia. Premiering on Friday, December 14 is the Australian Netflix original series Tidelands created by Stephen M. Irwin & Leigh McGrath and starring Charlotte Best, Elsa Pataky and Marco Pigossi. The show’s original music is composed by Matteo Zingales (99 Homes, Fahrenheit 451, The Hunter). The drama  revolves around an ex-con’s return to her hometown of Orphelin Bay that blows the lid off a generations-long conspiracy of silence around murder, drugs and Sirens. Variety is reporting that in addition to Green Book, three more scores have been ruled ineligible by the Academy’s music branch. Among ineligible titles are Solo: A Star Wars Story (composed by John Powell with themes by John Williams), which was reportedly submitted too late, Mandy (composed by Johann Johannsson), which violated the rule of its qualifying theatrical release (as the movie was released on VOD simultaneously), and The Other Side of the Wind (composed by Michel Legrand), which didn’t meet the same rule that Green Book was disqualified for. Atresmúsica has released a soundtrack album for the Spanish family comedy The Footballtest (Los futbolísimos). The album features the film’s original music composed by Fernando Velazquez (The Impossible, The Orphanage, A Monster Calls, Mama, Hercules, Devil). Milan Records will release the official soundtrack album for the thriller Serenity. The album features the film’s original music composed by Grammy Award and Golden Globe nominee Benjamin Wallfisch (It, Hidden Figures, Blade Runner 2049, Annabelle Creation). The only nationwide release this weekend is the 25th Anniversary re-release of the drama Schindler’s List directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley and Ralph Fiennes. The film’s original music is composed by John Williams (Star WarsJurassic ParkJawsRaiders of the Lost ArkE.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial) who earned his fifth Academy Award for his score. Opening in limited release is the drama Vox Lux directed by Brady Corbet and starring Natalie Portman, Jude Law, Cassidy, Stacy Martin, Jennifer Ehle, Christopher Abbott and Willem Dafoe. Scott Walker (The Childhood of a LeaderPola X) has composed the film’s original score and Sia has written original songs for the movie. Bear McCreary (10 Cloverfield Lane, The Walking Dead, Outlander, Battlestar Galactica) has composed the music for the third episode of the Hulu anthology series Into the Dark. The episode, entitled Pooka!, is directed by Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes) and stars Nyasha Hatendi, Latarsha Rose, Jon Daly, Dale Dickey, Jonny Berryman and Diane Sellers. The Christmas-themed episode follows an actor who is hired to play a life-size version of the holiday’s hottest toy: the pooka doll. Vigalondo is also executive producing the Blumhouse Television production with Jason Blum (Get Out, Halloween), John Hegeman, Gerard Olson (who also wrote the script), Nahikari Ipina and Alexa Faigen. Madison Gate Records has released the first soundtrack album for the Crackle original series StartUp. The album features selections of the original music from the show composed by Tristan Clopet who scored the show’s second and third season. Also included is a track by Chris Hajian (The Infiltrator) who composed the music for Season 1. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also check out audio clips. StartUp is created by Ben Ketai and stars Martin Freeman, Adam Brody, Otmara Marrero, Edi Gathegi, Karissa Montaner, Ron Perlman and Addison Timlin. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album for Stephanie Soechtig’s documentary The Devil We Know. The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Fast & Furious, Crazy Rich Asians, Now You See Me) who previously scored Soechtig’s Under the Gun. The Devil We Know centers on one of the biggest environmental scandals of our time, as a group of citizens in West Virginia take on a powerful corporation after they discover it has knowingly been dumping a toxic chemical into the local drinking water supply. THR is reporting that the music branch of the Academy Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has ruled the original score for Peter Farrelly’s comedy drama Green Book ineligible in the Best Original Score category for next year’s Academy Awards. The Academy is citing its rule that states that a score “shall not be eligible if it has been diluted by the use of pre-existing music, or it has been diminished in impact by the predominant use of songs or any music not composed specifically for the film by the submitting composer”. Kris Bowers (Dear White People, For the People) has composed the score for the film, which features several musical performances by the The Don Shirley Trio (led by Mahershala Ali who portrays pianist Shirley in the movie), as well some period songs.
