2019 BAFTA Nominations Announced

bafta1 The British Academy of Film and Television has announced the nominations for the 2019 Orange British Academy Film Awards. The winners will be announced at the Orange British Academy Film Awards ceremony at the Royal Opera House in London on Sunday, February 10. For a full list of nominations, click here.

Lesley Barber (Manchester by the SeaYou Can Count On MeMansfield Park) has been tapped to score the upcoming drama American Woman. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Semi Chellas (Ophelia, Mad Men) and stars Hong Chau, Sarah Gadon, John Gallagher Jr., Lola Kirke and Ellen Burstyn. Sony Classical will release the official soundtrack album for the family drama A Dog’s Way Home. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Mychael Danna (Life of Pi, Moneyball, Capote, Little Miss Sunshine, The Good Dinosaur, On the Basis of Sex). The soundtrack will be released this Friday, January 11. Click here to download the album and visit Amazon to pre-order the CD version. A Dog’s Way Home is directed by Charles Martin Smith and stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Ashley Judd, Wes Studi, Alexandra Shipp, Jonah Hauer-King and Edward James Olmos. The movie based on the book by W. Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans are scoring the upcoming psychological thriller The Lodge. The film is directed by Veronika Franz & Severin Fiala (Goodnight Mommy) and stars Riley Keough, Jaeden Martell, Lia McHugh, Alicia Silverstone, Richard Armitage and Daniel Keough. The movie centers on a young woman and her reticent new stepchildren who find themselves isolated in the family’s remote winter cabin, locked away to dredge up the mysteries of her dark past and the losses that seem to haunt them all.  Read the rest of this entry »

For the past few years, scoring mixers have been recognized alongside production, re-recording, ADR and foley mixers. In the Motion Pictures – Live Action category, the scoring mixers honored include Tyson Lozensky for John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place (scored by Marco Beltrami), Jason Ruder for Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born, Christopher Fogel for Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther (music by Ludwig Goransson) and Ai-Ling Lee for Damien Chazelle’s First Man (scored by Justin Hurwitz). Plaza Mayor Company will release a soundtrack album for the Venezuelan horror thriller The Whistler: Origins (El Silbon: Origenes). The album features the film’s original music composed and performed by Nascuy Linares (Embrace of the Serpent). The soundtrack will be released this coming Friday, January 11 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also check out the full track list and listen to audio samples. The Whistler: Origins is directed by Gisberg Bermudez and follows a father as he struggles to discover the origins of the Whistler’s curse to save his daughter from being gradually possessed by the supernatural creature. Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) has announced the line-up for the 21st annual Composer/Director Roundtable and 17th annual Snowball Showcase during the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. BMI’s roundtable entitled Music & Film: The Creative Process will take place on Sunday, January 27, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Kimball Arts Center (1401 Kearns Blvd, Park City). The conversation will be moderated by Doreen Ringer-Ross, BMI’s Vice President of Film,TV & Visual Media Relations and focuses on the relationship between composer and director. Karen O has recorded an original song for the upcoming Amazon original series Hanna. The track, entitled Anti-Lullaby, is written and performed by the singer/songwriter and is also featured in the show’s new teaser trailer, which is embedded after the jump. The song is now available to download on Amazon. Karen O has previously written original songs for Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are and Her, for which she received an Academy Award nomination. Hanna is developed by David Farr based Joe Wright’s 2011 feature of the same title (which Farr co-wrote) and stars Mireille Enos, Joel Kinnaman and Esme Creed-Miles. Read the rest of this entry »

Silva Screen Records has announced a soundtrack album for the British series Informer. The album features the show’s original music written by Ilan Eshkeri (Layer CakeStardustStill Alice47 RoninThe Young Victoria) who composed his score as five stand-alone pieces of music. The score, which features vocals by Daisy Chute, former member of the classical cross over vocal quartet All Angels and is performed by Sinfonia Nord & conducted by Atli Örvarsson, is made up from variations of these pieces of music. The soundtrack, which is presented with each complete piece and its variations, will be released digitally on January 18 and will be available to download here. Decca Records has released a soundtrack album for Yorgos Lanthimos’ comedy drama The Favourite. The album features the music from the movie by composers such as George Frideric Handel, Luc Ferrari, Antonio Vivaldi, Anna Meredith, Johann Sebastian Bach, among others. Also included is the harpsichord version of Elton John’s song Skyline Pigeon. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also check out audio samples. A CD version will be available to order here within the next couple of days. The Favourite starring Olivia Colman, Emma Stone, Rachel Weisz, Nicholas Hoult, Joe Alwyn, Mark Gatiss, James Smith and Jenny Rainsford centers on the bitter battle between cousins to be the court favorite during the reign of Queen Anne in the early 18th century.
