La-La Land Records has announced the world premiere score album release for the 1999 superhero action comedy Mystery Men directed by Kinka Usher and starring Ben Stiller, Janeane Garofalo, Hank Azaria, Claire Forlani,  Eddie Izzard, Greg Kinnear, William H. Macy, Kel Mitchell, Lena Olin, Paul Reubens, Geoffrey Rush, Wes Studi and Tom Waits. The album features the film’s original score composed by Academy Award winner Stephen Warbeck (Shakespeare in Love, Quills, Proof, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin), as well as additional music by Shirley Walker (Final Destination, Memoirs of an Invisible Man, Batman: The Animated Series). The 2-CD set, which is part of the label’s Universal Pictures Film Music Heritage Collection, is now available to order on La-La Land’s official website, where you can also check out audio samples. Quartet Records has released a soundtrack album for the documentary Sanctuary (Santuario). The album features the film’s original music composed by Fernando Velazquez (The Impossible, A Monster Calls, Mama, Crimson Peak, Devil, The Orphanage) and Alfred Tapscott (Hasta que la boda nos separe). The soundtrack is now available to stream/download here, where you can also listen to audio clips. Sanctuary is directed by Álvaro Longoria and tells the story of a campaign to preserve the Antarctic Ocean by Greenpeace. The movie is produced by and features Spanish actors and brothers Carlos Bardem and Oscar winner Javier Bardem who currently act as Antarctic ambassadors, to preserve the Southern Ocean and are using the tools at their disposal to achieve mass awareness and support for this initiative. Netflix announced today that the upcoming faith-based musical A Week Away will feature three original songs written by Adam Watts (High School Musical series). Watts also serves as the music producer of the movie, which also features reimagined songs from some of the biggest hits in Contemporary Christian Music history. Benjamin Backus is composing the project’s score. The film is directed by Roman White and stars Bailee Madison, Kevin Quinn, Sherri Shepherd, David Koechner, Jahbril Cook, Kat Conner Sterling and Iain Tucker. The album features the film’s original music composed by Ronen Landa (The PactEloise, 1BR, CavemenAt the Devil’s Door, A Rising Tide). Arista Records will release the official soundtrack album for the Netflix limited series The Eddy. The album features the original songs from the show written by Academy Award nominees Glen Ballard (The Polar Express) and Randy Kerber (The Color Purple) and performed by the drama’s cast. The soundtrack will be released on May 8 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon (digital version) and here (CD version). The Eddy is created by Jack Thorne and stars André Holland, Joanna Kulig, Amandla Stenberg, Leila Bekhti and Tahar Rahim. The musical drama executive produced by Damien Chazelle (who also directed the first two episodes) centers on the owner of a Paris jazz club as he gets tangled up with dangerous criminals as he fights to protect his business, his band and his teenage daughter. Academy Award winner Gustavo Santaolalla (Brokeback Mountain, Babel, 21 GramsThe Motorcycle DiariesThe Book of Life) has been tapped to score the upcoming sci-fi drama BIOS. The film is directed by Miguel Sapochnik (Game of Thrones, Repo Men) and stars Tom Hanks, Caleb Landry Jones, Samira Wiley, Laura Harrier and Skeet Ulrich. The movie is set in a post-apocalyptic world and follows an ailing inventor who builds a robot to keep his beloved dog safe and embarks upon an epic cross-country journey to teach his creation to become “human.” Craig Luck and Ivor Powell wrote the screenplay. The Academy’s Board of Governors has approved rules and campaign regulations for the 93rd Academy Awards, including a minor rule change for the Original Score category. According to the updated rules, “a score must be created specifically for the eligible feature-length motion picture and comprise a minimum of 60% of the total music in the film. If a score does not meet the minimum 60%, the composer may submit a letter to the Branch Executive Committee, stating reasons for the score to be accepted for consideration. All letters must be received by the due dates published by the Academy for the current awards cycle.  In cases such as sequels and franchises from any media, the score must consist of more than 80% newly composed music which does not contain any pre-existing themes borrowed from previous scores in the franchise”. The albums feature the original music from al four movies composed by Anthony Chue (Reign of Assassins, Divergence, Invisible Target, Bodies at Rest).
