Hans Zimmer is reteaming with Christopher Nolan on the director’s upcoming World War II action thriller Dunkirk. According to Hans-Zimmer.com, the composer has already started working on the film. The project marks Zimmer’s sixth collaboration with Nolan following The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception and Interstellar. Dunkirk is set during the legendary evacuation of the northern French city during WWII. Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance and Kenneth Branagh are reportedly in talks to star in the movie. Nolan is also producing the project with his producing partner Emma Thomas (Man of Steel, The Prestige).

Manchester Orchestra’s Andy Hull & Robert McDowell Scoring ‘Swiss Army Man’
Andy Hull and Robert McDowell of the indie rock band Manchester Orchestra have composed the music for the upcoming indie comedy drama Swiss Army Man. The film is directed by Daniel Scheinert & Daniel Kwan and stars Paul Dano, Daniel Radcliffe and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. The movie follows a hopeless man stranded in the wild who discovers a mysterious dead body. As he realizes the body is the key to his survival, he is forced to convince a dead body that life is worth living. Miranda Bailey (Super, The Diary of a Teenage Girl) is producing the project with Jonathan Wang, Lawrence Inglee (The Messenger, Rampart), Amanda Marshall, Eyal Rimmon (Waxwork) and Lauren Mann.
‘Other People’ to Feature Music by Julian Wass
Julian Wass is composing the music for the upcoming indie drama Other People. The film is written and directed by Chris Kelly (Saturday Night Live) and stars Jesse Plemons, Molly Shannon, Bradley Whitford, Maude Apatow, Zach Woods and June Squibb. The movie centers on a struggling comedy writer, fresh off a breakup and in the midst of the worst year of his life, who returns to Sacramento to care for his dying mother. Actor Adam Scott is producing the project with his wife Naomi Scott, as well as Sam Bisbee (Infinitely Polar Bear, Cop Car).
Mark Suozzo Scoring Whit Stillman’s ‘Love & Friendship’
Mark Suozzo is reuniting with director Whit Stillman on the upcoming period comedy Love & Friendship. The film is written and directed by Stillman and stars Kate Beckinsale, Chloë Sevigny, Xavier Samuel, Emma Greenwell, Tom Bennett and Stephen Fry. The movie is based on an unpublished early novella by Jane Austen and follows Lady Susan Vernon as she visits the estate of her in-laws to wait out colorful rumors of her dalliances and to find husbands for herself and her daughter. Stillman is also producing the project with Katie Holly (Citadel) and Lauranne Bourrachot (A Prophet, Sleepless Night).
Aaron Zigman to Score Robin Swicord’s ‘Wakefield’
Aaron Zigman is set to reteam with director Robin Swicord on the upcoming drama Wakefield. The film is written and directed by Swicord (screenwriter of Memoirs of a Geisha & Little Women) and stars Bryan Cranston and Jennifer Garner. The movie is based a short story of the same name by E.L. Doctorow and follows a Manhattan lawyer who unexpectedly leaves his wife and winds up staying in his attic for several months due to a nervous breakdown. Bonnie Curtis (Saving Private Ryan, Minority Report) and Julie Lynn (Albert Nobbs, Passengers, Mother and Child) are producing the project for their Mockingbird Pictures company, alongside Broadway producers Wendy Federman and Carl Moellenberg.
‘Weiner’ to Feature Music by Jeff Beal
Jeff Beal is composing the music for the upcoming documentary Weiner. The film is directed by Josh Kriegman & Elyse Steinberg and centers on the disgraced New York Congressman Anthony Weiner’s mayoral campaign and reveals the human story behind the scenes of a high-profile political scandal as it unfolds, and offers an unfiltered look at how much today’s politics is driven by an appetite for spectacle. Kriegman and Steinberg are also producing the project. Weiner will premiere next month in competition at the Sundance Film Festival.
Rupert Gregson-Williams & Dominic Lewis Scoring ‘Open Season: Scared Silly’
Rupert Gregson-Williams and Dominic Lewis have recently composed the music for the upcoming animated feature Open Season: Scared Silly. The film is the fourth installment in the Open Season series and features the voices of Donny Lucas, Will Townsend, Trevor Devall, Kathleen Barr, Garry Chalk and Melissa Sturm. David Feiss (Cow and Chicken) is directing the movie and John Bush is producing the Sony Pictures Animation production. The animated comedy follows former hunter Shaw who seizes on the opportunity to re-open open season as a case of mistaken identity leads both humans and animals to believe there is a monstrous werewolf on the prowl in Timberline National Forest.
David Mansfield Scoring ‘Sophie and the Rising Sun’
David Mansfield is reuniting with director Maggie Greenwald on the upcoming romantic drama Sophie and the Rising Sun. The film is written and directed by Greenwald and stars Julianne Nicholson, Margo Martindale, Lorraine Toussaint, Takashi Yamaguchi, Diane Ladd and Joel Murray. The movie is set in a Southern town in 1941 and follows a woman whose life is transformed when an Asian man arrives under mysterious circumstances. Greenwald is also producing the project with Brenda Goodman, Nancy Dickenson and Lorraine Gallard.
Alex Somers Scoring Matt Ross’ ‘Captain Fantastic’
Alex Somers has composed the music for the upcoming indie drama Captain Fantastic. The film is written and directed by Matt Ross (28 Hotel Rooms) and stars Viggo Mortensen, Frank Langella, George MacKay, Kathryn Hahn, Steve Zahn and Ann Dowd. The movie follows a father devoted to raising his six kids with a rigorous physical and intellectual education who is forced to leave the forests of the Pacific Northwest and to re-enter society. Lynette Howell Taylor (Big Eyes, Half Nelson) and Jamie Patricof (Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond the Pines) are producing the project with Shivani Rawat & Monica Levinson (Trumbo, Bruno).
The Newton Brothers to Score ‘Ouija 2’
The Newton Brothers are reteaming with director Mike Flanagan on the upcoming horror thriller Ouija 2. The film is a sequel to last year’s hit horror feature Ouija and stars Annalise Basso, Elizabeth Reaser, Henry Thomas, Lulu Wilson, Parker Mack, Sam Anderson, Kate Siegel, and Doug Jones. No plot details have been announced yet. Flanagan has also co-written the screenplay with Jeff Howard. Michael Bay (Transformers, Armageddon), Brad Fuller & Andrew Form (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Purge, Friday the 13th) are producing the project for Platinum Dunes, alongside Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, Insidious) for Blumhouse Productions, Trevor Mercy and Brian Goldner & Stephen Davis (G.I. Joe, Battleship) for Hasbro.
