Frank Ilfman has signed on to score the upcoming drama The Etruscan Smile. The film is directed by Oded Binnun & Mihal Brezis (Aya) and stars Brian Cox, JJ Feild, Thora Birch and Rosanna Arquette. The movie follows an old Scotsman who travels from his home in the remote island of Vallasay, Scotland to San Francisco to seek treatment for a terminal illness and finds his precious days left alive transformed as he bonds with his American grandson. Michael McGowan (Saint Ralph, One Week), Michal Lali Kagan and Sarah Bellwood have written the screenplay based on the Spanish bestseller La Sonrisa Etrusca by Jose Luis Sampedro.

Christopher Lennertz to Score Sony Pictures Animation’s ‘Smurfs: The Lost Village’
Christopher Lennertz has been hired to score the upcoming animated feature Smurfs: The Lost Village. The film is directed by Kelly Asbury (Shrek 2, Gnomeo & Juliet) and features the voice talent of Demi Lovato, Rainn Wilson, Mandy Patinkin, Joe Manganiello, Jack McBrayer and Danny Pudi. The movie follows Smurfette and her brothers Hefty, Clumsy and Brainy trekking through the uncharted Enchanted Forest to try and discover a fabled Smurfs village. Jordan Kerner (Charlotte’s Web, Fried Green Tomatoes, The Mighty Ducks) is producing the Sony Pictures Animation production.
Patrick Doyle to Score Kenneth Branagh’s ‘Murder on the Orient Express’
Patrick Doyle confirmed in a recent interview with BBC Radio 3 that is reteaming with Kenneth Branagh on the upcoming new film adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express. The film stars Branagh as detective Hercule Poirot, alongside Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Daisy Ridley, Judi Dench, Lucy Boynton, Tom Bateman, Derek Jacobi, Michael Peņa and Leslie Odom Jr. The movie is based on the novel of the same title by Agatha Christie and follows Poirot as he investigates the murder of a wealthy American traveling on a train. Michael Green (Blade Runner 2, Green Lantern) has written the screenplay.
Charlie Clouser to Return for ‘Saw: Legacy’
Charlie Clouser has signed on to score the upcoming horror thriller Saw: Legacy. The film is directed by Peter and Michael Spierig (Daybreakers, Predestination) and marks the eight installment in the horror series. No casting announcement have been made yet. Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfiner (Piranha 3D, Sorority Row) have written the screenplay. Mark Burg and Oren Kholes (John Q, Set It Off) are producing the project. Clouser has previously scored all seven films of the original Saw series.
James Newton Howard to Score Jake Kasdan’s ‘Jumanji’ Sequel
James Newton Howard has been hired to score the upcoming Jumanji sequel. The film is directed by Jake Kasdan (Bad Teacher, Orange County) and stars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillian, Jack Black and Nick Jonas. No plot details have been announced yet. Scott Rosenberg (High Fidelity, Con Air) and Jeff Pinkner (The Amazing Spider-Man 2, The 5th Wave) have written the screenplay based on a previous draft by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers (Spider-Man: Homecoming, The Lego Batman Movie). Matt Tolmach (The Amazing Spider-Man) and William Teitler (The Polar Express) are producing the project.
Gabriel Yared to Score Xavier Dolan’s ‘The Death and Life of John F. Donovan’
Gabriel Yared is reteaming with director Xavier Dolan on the upcoming drama The Death and Life of John F. Donovan. The film marks Dolan’s English-language debut and stars Kit Harington, Jessica Chastain, Natalie Portman, Susan Sarandon, Kathy Bates, Ben Schnetzer, Michael Gambon, Bella Thorne, Thandie Newton, Chris Zylka and Emily Hampshire. The movie takes place in the early 2000’s and centers on the tribulations of an American TV star in his late twenties and his correspondence with Rupert Turner, a young actor-to-be living with his mother in England.
Marcelo Zarvos to Score Denzel Washington’s ‘Fences’
Marcelo Zarvos has signed on to score the upcoming drama Fences. The film marks the third feature directorial effort by Denzel Washington (The Great Debaters, Antwone Fisher) who also stars in the film, alongside Viola Davis, Jovan Adepo, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Russell Hornsby, Mykelti Williamson and Saniyya Sydney. The movie is based on August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning play of the same title and tells the story of a one-time promising baseball player, now working as a Pittsburgh garbage collector, and the complicated relationships with his wife, son and friends.
West Dylan Thordson Scoring M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Split’
West Dylan Thordson has composed the original score for the upcoming psychological thriller Split. The film is written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Signs, Unbreakable) and stars James McAvoy, Anya Taylor-Joy, Betty Buckley, Jessica Sula and Haley Lu Richardson. The movie centers around a man who endures a major loss and becomes compelled to abduct three teenage girls. Shyamalan is also producing the project with Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, The Purge, Insidious) for his production company Blumhouse and Marc Bienstock.
Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross to Score Peter Berg’s ‘Patriots Day’
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have been hired to score the upcoming drama Patriots Day. The film is directed by Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights, Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon) and stars Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman, J.K. Simmons, Kevin Bacon, Michelle Monaghan, Jimmy O. Yang, Vince Curatola and James Colby. The movie tells the story of Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis’s actions in the events leading up to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and the aftermath, which includes the city-wide manhunt to find the terrorists behind it. Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies) has written the screenplay. Scott Stuber (Ted, Role Models, Safe House), Wahlberg, Hutch Parker (X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Wolverine), Dylan Clark (Rise/Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Stephen Levinson (Entourage, The Gambler), Dorothy Aufiero (The Fighter) and Michael Radutzky are producing the project.

Hans Zimmer has signed on to score DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming feature The Boss Baby. The film is directed by Tom McGrath and features the voices of Alec Baldwin, Steve Buscemi, Jimmy Kimmel and Lisa Kudrow. The movie is based on the book by Marla Frazee and follows a suit-wearing briefcase-carrying baby who pairs up with his seven-year old brother to stop the dastardly plot of the CEO of Puppy Co. Michael McCullers (Austin Powers) has written the screenplay. Ramsey Naito is producing the project.
