John Williams is set to score Steven Spielberg’s upcoming drama The Papers. The film stars Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Sarah Paulson, Bob Odenkirk, Bradley Whitford, Alison Brie, Matthew Rhys, Carrie Coon, Jesse Plemons, David Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Tracy Letts, Michael Stuhlbarg and Zach Woods. The movie revolves around the 1971 scandal after the decision of The Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee and publisher Katharine Graham to publish The Pentagon Papers. Liz Hannah wrote the screenplay. Spielberg is also producing the Amblin Entertainment production with Amy Pascal (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Ghostbusters) and Kristie Macosko Krieger (Bridge of Spies).

Alan Silvestri has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming film adaptation of Ready Player One. The film is directed by Steven Spielberg and stars Tye Sheridan, Oliva Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Win Morisaki, Mark Rylance, Simon Pegg and T.J Miller. The movie is based on the 2011 novel by Ernest Cline and follows a group of teenagers on a quest for riches in a futuristic virtual world. Spielberg is also producing the project with Donald De Line (The Italian Job, Green Lantern), Kristie Macosko Krieger (Bridge of Spies) and Dan Farah (Armored).
Dominic Lewis to Score ‘Hunter Killer’
Dominic Lewis has been tapped to score the upcoming action thriller Hunter Killer. The film is directed by Donovan Marsh (Avenged) and stars Gerard Butler, Gary Oldman, Billy Bob Thornton, Willem Dafoe, Common, Gabriel Chavarria, Toby Stephens, Linda Cardellini and Michael Nyqvist. The movie follows an untested American captain who teams with Navy Seals for a mission to rescue the Russian president. Peter Craig (The Town) and Jamie Moss (Ghost in the Shell) wrote the screenplay based on the George Wallace and Don Keith novel Firing Point.
Joseph Stephens Scoring Jody Hill’s ‘The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter’
Composer Joseph Stephens is reteaming with director Jody Hill on the upcoming comedy The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter. The movie starring Josh Brolin, Danny McBride, Montana Jordan and Scoot McNairy revolves around a sixth-grade boy who is supposed to be bonding with his father on a hunting trip, but is far from interested. Hill also co-wrote the screenplay with McBride and John Carcieri. Scott Rudin (The Social Network, No Country for Old Men, Captain Phillips) is producing the project.

Ramin Djawadi has been tapped to score the upcoming drama The Mountain Between Us. The film is directed by Hany Abu-Assad (Paradise Now, Omar) and stars Kate Winslet, Idris Elba, Beau Bridges and Dermot Mulroney. The movie is based on the book of the same title by Charles Martin and follows a surgeon and a journalist who pair up for the sake of convenience to take a small plane that crashes in the middle of nowhere. Director Amma Asante revealed on Twitter that composer Anne Chmelewsky is currently recording her score for the upcoming period drama Where Hands Touch. The film is written and directed by Asante and stars Amandla Stenberg, George Mackay and Abbie Cornish. The movie takes place in Germany in 1944 where a 15-year-old girl, daughter of a white German mother and a black father, lives in fear due to the color of her skin and falls in love with the son of a prominent SS officer. Charlie Hanson (Cemetery Junction) is producing the project.
David Buckley to Score ‘Papillon’ Remake
David Buckley is composing the music for the upcoming remake of the 1973 classic Papillon. The film is directed by Michael Noer (R, Northwest) and stars Charlie Hunnam, Rami Malek, Tommy Flanagan, Michael Socha and Nikola Kent. The movie is a modern retelling of the original, which was based on the memoirs of convicted felon and fugitive Henri Charriere. Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners) wrote the screenplay. Joey McFarland & Riza Aziz (The Wolf of Wall Street), David Koplan, Ram Bergman (Looper, Brick) and Roger Corbi are producing the project.

Jeff Russo has been hired to score the upcoming biographical comedy drama I, Tonya. The film is directed by Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl, Fright Night) and stars Margot Robbie as figure skater Tonya Harding, Sebastian Stan as her spouse Jeff Gillooly, Allison Janney as her mother Lavona, as well as Paul Walter Hauser, Mckenna Grace, Caitlin Carver and Julianne Nicholson. The movie centers around Harding’s attack on rival Nancy Kerrigan, which was aimed at breaking Kerrigan’s leg so she couldn’t compete in the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer.
