Last night, WQXR’s Movies on the Radio show premiered the first couple of tracks of the score for Disney’s upcoming sci-fi adventure John Carter. The music is composed by Michael Giacchino who recently recorded his orchestral score for the film in Los Angeles. During the one-hour show, Giacchino also talked about his other recent projects, including Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and Super 8. Two new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
The comic book adaptation Captain America:The First Avenger directed by Joe Johnston and starring Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Stanley Tucci and Dominic Cooper features music by Alan Silvestri. A soundtrack album including the composer’s score has been released on Buena Vista Records. Check out our soundtrack announcement for more information and audio clips. Also featured on the album is the song Star Spangled Man (music by Alan Menken and lyrics by David Zippel). Alexandre Desplat on ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2’
Last week, representatives of several Harry Potter news websites talked to Alexandre Desplat about his score for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. ‘Horrible Bosses’ Soundtrack Details
Watertower Music has announced the details for the soundtrack release of the comedy Horrible Bosses. The album includes the original score by Christopher Lennertz who collaborated with numerous rock musicians, including Money Mark (Beastie Boys), Mick McCready (Pearl Jam), Dave Levita (Eminem), Chris Chaney (Jane’s Addiction), Stefan Lessard (Dave Matthews Band),Victor Indrizzo (Beck) and DJ Cheapshot (Fort Minor, Linkin Park) to create the film’s music. UCLA’s Hammer Museum has published the full conversation between Michael Giacchino and director J.J. Abrams that took place on June 12 as previously reported on this page. Pixar’s animated film Cars 2 directed by John Lasseter is expected to top the weekend box office. The film’s music is composed by Michael Giacchino. A soundtrack album featuring five songs, as well as Giacchino’s score has been released by Walt Disney Records. SoundWorks Collection has published a new profile on the sound and music of Pixar’s Cars 2, which is opening in theaters today. The profile includes interviews with composer Michael Giacchino, re-recording mixer and sound designer Tom Myers, and sound effects editor Al Nelson. Check out the full video after the jump. Danny Elfman to Reunite with Sam Raimi on ‘Oz’ and In Talks to Score ‘The Hunger Games’
In a recent interview with Danny Elfman at the Grammy Museum’s Clive Davis Theater in downtown Los Angeles, the composer talked about some of his upcoming projects. He revealed that he will be reuniting with director Sam Raimi for the first time since 2004’s Spider-Man 2. Raimi’s next directorial effort is Walt Disney Pictures’ fantasy tentpole Oz: The Great and Powerful. The film is a prequel to The Wizard of Oz that finds the titular character arriving in the Land of Oz and being treated like a wizard by the colorful locals. The movie’s cast includes James Franco, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz. David Lindsay-Abaire (Robots, Rabbit Hole) is writing the screenplay and Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland) is producing.
Michael Giacchino on ‘Cars 2’
Michael Giacchino has been doing a lot of interviews lately about his score for Pixar’s animated film Cars 2. The Pixar Podcast recently featured a 30-minute conversation with Giacchino talking about his work on the Pixar film, his collaboration with director John Lasseter, the difference between working on film and TV, his thematic approach and his thoughts on today’s film music.
