Two new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the fantasy adventure Oz the Great and Powerful directed by Sam Raimi and starring James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams and Zach Braff. Danny Elfman composed the film’s original score. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally earlier this week. Intrada Records will release a physical version. Check out our previous article for the full album details. Mariah Carey has contributed the original song Almost Home to the film. Also opening wide is the crime thriller Dead Man Down directed byNiels Arden Oplev and starring Colin Farrell, Noomi Rapace, Terrence Howard, Dominic Cooper, Isabelle Huppert and Armand Assante. The film’s score is composed by Jacob Groth (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Unforgettable). Varese Sarabande will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score on April 2, 2013. ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ Soundtrack Details

The full soundtrack details for the fantasy adventure Oz the Great and Powerful have been revealed. The album features the film’s original score composed by Danny Elfman. The soundtrack will be released digitally on March 5, 2013 by Walt Disney Records and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A physical version will be released by Intrada Records. As previously reported, Mariah Carey is contributing the original song Almost Home, which has just been released on Island Def Jam this past Tuesday (click here to download the track). Oz the Great and Powerful is directed by Sam Raimi and stars James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams and Zach Braff. The movie about the origins of L. Frank Baum’s character, the Wizard of Oz, is set to be released on March 8, 2013 by Walt Disney Pictures.

Mariah Carey Performs ‘Almost Home’ for ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’

Disney announced today that Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Mariah Carey has recorded the original song Almost Home for Sam Raimi’s upcoming fantasy adventure Oz the Great and Powerful. The track will be released as a single by Carey’s label, Island Def Jam, on February 19, 2013. David LaChapelle will direct Carey in the music video for Almost Home. Carey has written the song with Simone Porter, Justin Gray, Lindsey Ray, Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel Eriksen. She has previously performed original songs for such films as The Prince of Egypt and Glitter. As previously reported, Danny Elfman has composed the score for Oz the Great and Powerful, which will be released by Intrada and Walt Disney Records next month.

Intrada Records and Walt Disney Records will release the official soundtrack album for Sam Raimi’s upcoming fantasy adventure Oz the Great and Powerful. The album features the film’s score composed by Danny Elfman who has previously worked with the director on the first two Spider-Man movies, as well as on the features A Simple Plan and Army of Darkness. No word yet on the release date, but the track titles can be checked out after the jump. The full soundtrack details and cover art will be posted on this site within the next few weeks. Oz the Great and Powerful starring James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams and Zach Braff imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s character, the Wizard of Oz.

In a recent interview with Danny Elfman at the Grammy Museum’s Clive Davis Theater in downtown Los Angeles, the composer talked about some of his upcoming projects. He revealed that he will be reuniting with director Sam Raimi for the first time since 2004’s Spider-Man 2. Raimi’s next directorial effort is Walt Disney Pictures’ fantasy tentpole Oz: The Great and Powerful. The film is a prequel to The Wizard of Oz that finds the titular character arriving in the Land of Oz and being treated like a wizard by the colorful locals. The movie’s cast includes James Franco, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz. David Lindsay-Abaire (Robots, Rabbit Hole) is writing the screenplay and Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland) is producing.
