Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the fantasy adventure The Mummy directed by Alex Kurtzman and starring Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance and Russell Crowe. The film’s original music is composed by Brian Tyler (Fast & Furious, Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Now You See Me, Thor: The Dark World). Back Lot Music has released a digital deluxe edition soundtrack today and will release a CD version next week. Also opening wide is the horror thriller It Comes at Night written and directed by Trey Edward Shults and starring Joel Edgerton, Christopher Abbott, Carmen Ejogo, Riley Keough and Kelvin Harrion Jr. Brian McOmber (Krisha, A Teacher, Ugly) has composed the film’s original music. The third wide release is the drama Megan Leavey directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite and starring Kate Mara, Edie Falco, Ramón Rodríguez, Bradley Whitford and Common. The film’s original music composed by Mark Isham (Crash, The Accountant, A River Runs Through It, Once Upon a Time, 42). Opening in around 500 theaters is the romantic drama My Cousin Rachel directed by Roger Michell and starring Rachel Weisz, Sam Claflin, Holliday Grainger and Iain Glen. Rael Jones (Suite Francaise, Kids in Love, Harlots) has composed the film’s original music. Sony Masterworks has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening in limited release is the comedy drama Beatriz at Dinner directed by Miguel Arteta and starring Salma Hayek, Chloë Sevigny, John Lithgow, Connie Britton, Jay Duplass, David Warshofsky and Amy Landecker. The film’s original music is composed by Mark Mothersbaugh (The LEGO Movie, The Royal Tenenbaums, Hotel Transylvania, 21/22 Jump Street). No word on a soundtrack release. Also opening in select theaters is the comedy drama The Hero co-written and directed by Brett Haley and starring Sam Elliott, Nick Offerman, Laura Prepon, Krysten Ritter and Katharine Ross. Keegan DeWitt (I’ll See You in My Dreams, Morris from America, Divorce, Listen Up Philip) has composed the film’s original music. Also opening in select theaters is the thriller The Hunter’s Prayer directed by Jonathan Mostow and starring Sam Worthington, Odeya Rush, Allen Leech, Amy Landecker, Martin Compston and Veronica Echegui. The film’s original music is composed by Federico Jusid (The Secret in Their Eyes, Nedura, Kidnap, Misconduct). No soundtrack album has been released. The movie follows an assassin who helps a young woman avenge the death of her family. The thriller is being released in theaters and on VOD by Saban Films.
Another limited release this week is the comedy Random Tropical Paradise written and directed by Sanjeev Sirpal and starring Bryan Greenberg, Brooks Wheelan, Spencer Grammer, Joe Pantoliano, Beth Littleford, Kyle Kinane, Jessica Lowe, Brittany Furlan, Caitlin McHugh and Alphonso McAuley. Bryce Jacobs (Drive Hard, Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead: The Story of the National Lampoon, 12 Monkeys) has composed the film’s original music. Also opening in limited release is the horror thriller Camera Obscura directed by Aaron B. Koontz and starring Christopher Denham, Nadja Bobyleva, Catherine Curtin, Chase Williamson and Noah Segan. The film’s original music is composed by Steve Moore (The Guest, Cub, Don’t Knock Twice). Hood River Entertainment & Paper Street Pictures have released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by Art Decade and Ben Talmi.
