Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the sports drama 42 written and directed by Brian Helgeland and stars Chadwick Boseman, Harrison Ford, Nicole Beharie, Alan Tudyk, Christopher Meloni, Ryan Merriman, Brad Beyer and T.R. Knight. The film’s original score is composed by Mark Isham (Crash, A River Runs Through It). WaterTower Music has released two soundtracks, including an album featuring the songs from the movie and a track from Isham’s score (click here for our announcement including audio clips), as well as an album featuring the composer’s score (audio clips and the full details are available here). Also opening wide is the horror comedy sequel Scary Movie 5 directed by Malcolm Lee and stars Ashley Tisdale, Charlie Sheen, Lindsay Lohan, Snoop Dogg, Katt Williams, Molly Shannon, Terry Crews, Simon Rex, Jerry O’Connell, Sarah Hyland, Katrina Bowden, Tyler Posey, Shad Moss aka Bow Wow, Kate Walsh, Heather Locklear, Mac Miller and Mike Tyson. James L. Venable (Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, EuroTrip) has composed the film’s score. Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film by artists including Hyper Crush, Latief Scott, Bellringer, Blind Truth featuring Georgia Harris and Tarik NuClothes on April 23. Opening in limited release is the drama To the Wonder written and directed by Terrence Malickand starring Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Javier Bardem and Olga Kurylenko. The film’s original music is composed by Hanan Townshend. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as two classical pieces used in the movie by Richard Wagner and J.S. Bach. Also opening in limited release is the drama Disconnect directed by Henry Alex Rubin and starring Jason Bateman, Alexander Skarsgard, Hope Davis, Frank Grillo, Michael Nyqvist, Paula Patton, Andrea Riseborough and Max Thieriot. The film’s original score is composed by Max Richter (Waltz with Bashir, Perfect Sense). Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the song Ni Su Nave by Jayme Ivison. Another limited release this week is the comedy drama The Angel’s Share directed by Ken Loach and starring Paul Brannigan, John Henshaw, Gary Maitland and William Ruane. George Fenton (Gandhi, The Fisher King, Groundhog Day) who has collaborated with the director numerous time before has composed the film’s original score. Quartet Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as two songs featured in the film by The Proclaimers and Deadmau5. Also opening in select cities is the war drama Into the White directed by Petter Næss and starring Rupert Grint, David Kross, Stig Henrik Hoff, Florian Lukas and Lachlan Nieboer. Norwegian composer Nils Petter Molvaer has composed the film’s original score. No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie follows two enemy WWII fighter pilots who find themselves face to face after shooting down each other’s planes over a desolate landscape, and must set aside the rules of war in order to survive. The film is being released by Magnolia Pictures and is now also available on VOD. For more information about the drama, visit the official movie website.
Finally, also opening in limited release is the indie comedy It’s a Disaster directed by Todd Berger and starring Julia Stiles, David Cross, America Ferrera, Erinn Hayes, Jeff Grace, Rachel Boston, Kevin M. Brennan and Blaise Miller. While the film doesn’t feature an original score, composer Austin Wintory (Journey) served as a music consultant on the project. The comedy premiered at last year’s Los Angeles Film Festival and is being released by Oscilloscope Laboratories. The movie is also available on VOD.
