Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the sci-fi/horror movie Alien: Romulus directed by Fede Alvarez and starring Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu. Also opening wide is the family adventure drama My Penguin Friend directed by David Schurmann and starring Jean Reno, Adriana Barraza, Alexia Moyano, Rochi Hernández, Nicolás Francella, Juan José Garnica and Pedro Urizzi. Opening in semi-wide in around 700 theaters is the crime thriller Skincare co-written and directed by Austin Peters and staring Elizabeth Banks, Lewis Pullman, Nathan Fillion, Luis Gerardo Méndez and Michaela Jaé Rodriguez. Fatima Al Qadiri (Atlantics, The Grandmother, Seeking Mavis Beacon) has composed the film’s original score. Also opening semi-wide in around 500 theaters is the biographical drama Rob Peace directed by Chiwetel Ejiofor and starring Jay Will, Mary J. Blige, Ejiofor himself, Mare Winningham, Camila Cabello and Michael Kelly. The film’s original music is composed by Jeff Russo (Fargo, Star Trek: Discovery, Ripley, Legion, Star Trek Picard, The Night Of, The Umbrella Academy, For All Mankind, Love & Death). Opening in New York today before expanding to more U.S. markets in the coming weeks is the French drama Red Island (L’île rouge) directed by Robin Campillo and starring Nadia Tereszkiewicz, Quim Gutierrez, Amely Rakotoarimalala, Charlie Vauselle, Hugues Delamarlière, David Serero and Sophie Guillemin. Arnaud Rebotini (BPM (Beats Per Minute), Eastern Boys, Dark Glasses, Curiosa, With the Wind) has composed the film’s original music. Zend Avesta has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last year when the movie opened in France. Also opening in select theaters today is the Canadian/British drama Close to You written and directed by Dominic Savage and starring Elliot Page and Hillary Baack.
