Composer Theodore Shapiro (The Devil Wears Prada, Bombshell, Severance, Destroyer, Marley & Me) is reteaming with director Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, The Heat) on the upcoming Netflix original film The School for Good and Evil. The movie is based on Soman Chainani’s best-selling YA fantasy series and stars Sophia Anne Caruso, Sofia Wylie, Charlize Theron, Kerry Washington, Michelle Yeoh, Laurence Fishburne, Kit Young, Rachel Bloom, Peter Serafinowicz, Mark Heap and Patti LuPone. The fantasy adventure follows two best friends as they navigate an enchanted school for young heroes and villains – and find themselves on opposing sides of the battle between good and evil. David Magee (Life of Pi, Mary Poppins Returns) and Laura Solon (Office Christmas Party) wrote the screenplay. Feig is also producing the project with Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent) Jeffrey Kirschenbaum (F9: The Fast Saga, The United States vs. Billie Holiday), Jane Startz (The Mighty, Tuck Everlasting) and Laura Fischer. Shapiro has previously scored the director’s last four features, Spy, Ghostbusters, A Simple Favor and Last Christmas. The School for Good and Evil is expected to premiere this fall on Netflix.
Shapiro is also expected to return to score the second season of Apple TV+’s Severance. His other recent feature projects include Maya Forbes’ & Wally Wolodarsky’s The Good House, which premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and is currently awaiting a release date.
