Geoff Zanelli is reteaming with director Joachim Rønning on the upcoming fantasy adventure sequel Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. The film starring Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sam Riley, Harris Dickinson, Ed Skrein, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville picks up several years after the original 2014 film (which was scored by James Newton Howard) and explores the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within. Jolie is also producing the project with Joe Roth. Zanelli has previously scored Rønning’s last feature, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and also scored last year’s Christopher Robin for Disney. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is set to be released on October 18, 2019 by Walt Disney Pictures. (THR)

The composer’s other upcoming projects also include David Koepp’s You Should Have Left and the animated feature Red Shoes & the 7 Dwarfs.

  1. Bernd-Helmut Heine says:

Another surprise here. I really had high hopes for JNH to return. His score for the first movie was great! Well, Mr. Zanelli, now it´s your time to shine… Good luck with that, it won´t be easy.
