Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the horror comedy Pride and Prejudice and Zombies directed by Burr Steers and starring Lily James, Sam Riley, Jack Huston, Douglas Booth, Bella Heathcote, Matt Smith, Charles Dance and Lena Headey. The film’s original music is composed by Fernando Velazquez (The Orphanage, The Impossible, Crimson Peak, Hercules). Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening wide is the comedy Hail, Caesar! written and directed by Joel & Ethan Coen and starring Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Ralph Fiennes, Jonah Hill, Scarlett Johansson, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Alden Ehrenreich and Channing Tatum. Carter Burwell who regularly works the directors has composed the film’s original score. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as the musical performances featured in the movie, including No Dames written by Henry Krieger & Willie Reale and performed by Tatum. The third wide release is the romantic drama The Choice directed by Ross Katz, based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks and starring Teresa Palmer, Benjamin Walker, Tom Welling, Alexandra Daddario and Maggie Grace. The film’s original music is composed by Marcelo Zarvos (The Affair, Enough Said, The Good Shepherd). Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by Guster, The National, The Rosebuds, Veronica Falls, Natalia Safran & more. Opening in limited release is the psychological thriller Regression directed by Alejandro Amenábar and starring Ethan Hawke, Emma Watson, David Dencik, David Thewlis, Devon Bostic, Dale Dickey and Lothaire Bluteau. Roque Banos (In the Heart of the Sea, Evil Dead, Oldboy, Sexy Beast) has composed the film’s original music. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last fall when the movie opened overseas. Also opening in limited release is the romantic comedy drama Tumbledown directed by Sean Mewshaw and starring Jason Sudeikis, Rebecca Hall, Dianna Agron, Blythe Danner and Joe Manganiello. The film’s original score is composed by Daniel Hart (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, Comet, Return to Sender) and Damien Jurado has contributed original songs to the movie. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring both Hart’s score and Jurado’s songs. Also opening in select theaters is the crime thriller Misconduct directed by Shintaro Shimosawa and starring Josh Duhamel, Al Pacino, Anthony Hopkins, Malin Akerman and Alice Eve. Federico Jusid (The Secret in Their Eyes, Isabel, Everybody Has a Plan, Thieves) has composed the film’s original music. Also opening in select cities is the Icelandic comedy drama Rams directed by Grímur Hákonarson and starring Sigurður Sigurjónsson and Theodór Júlíusson. The film’s original music is composed by Atli Orvarsson (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Vantage Point, Chicago Fire, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs featured in the movie by Haukur Morthens, Sigurður Skagfield and Stefán Íslandi. Another limited release this week is the fantasy adventure sequel The Monkey King 2 directed by Cheang Pou-soi and starring Aaron Kwok, Gong Li, Feng Shaofeng, Xiaoshenyang and Him Law. Christopher Young (Spider-Man 3, Hellraiser, Ghost Rider, The Shipping News, Entrapment) who previously scored the original movie has composed the sequel’s original music. The Monkey King 2 tells the story of how the Monkey King protected the monk Xuanzang from being eaten by a shapeshifting demoness three times on a journey to collect the Buddhist sutras from India. The movie is now also available on VOD.
Also opening in select markets is the anthology horror thriller Southbound directed by Radio Silence, Roxanne Benjamin, David Bruckner & Patrick Horvath and starring Chad Villella, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Fabianne Therese, Nathalie Love, Hannah Marks, Dana Gould, Mather Zickel, David Yow, Matt Peters and Larry Fessenden. The film’s original music is composed by The Gifted. Headquarters Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer duo’s score. Also opening in limited release is the romantic comedy All Roads Lead to Rome written and directed by Ella Lemhagen and starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Raoul Bova, Rosie Day, Claudia Cardinale and Paz Vega. Alfonso Gonzalez Aguilar has composed the film’s original score. No soundtrack album has been announced. All Roads Lead to Rome follows a single mother from New York City who embarks on a journey to a Tuscan village in an effort to reconnect with her rebellious teenage daughter and runs into her ex-boyfriend living with his 80-year-old mother. The comedy is being released in select theaters and on VOD by Momentum Pictures.
Also opening in select theaters is the comedy 4th Man Out directed by Andrew Nackmann and starring Alex Rennie, Brooke Dillman, Chord Overstreet, Evan Todd, Jake Epstein, Jennifer Damiano, Jon Gabrus, Jordan Lane Price, Kate Flannery and Parker Young. The film’s original music is composed by Herman Beeftink. No word on a soundtrack release. 4th Man Out follows a car mechanic in a small, working class town who comes out of the closet to his unsuspecting, blue-collar best friends. The comedy is being reeled by Gravitas Venture in theaters and on VOD.
