Alexandre Desplat revealed in an interview on Radio Classique’s Culture Club that he will be reuniting with director Gareth Edwards on the upcoming Star Wars spinoff feature Rogue One. Felicity Jones is attached to star in the film, which is scripted by Chris Weitz (Cinderella, The Golden Compass). No plot details have been revealed yet, but the movie is said to be the first in a series of big-screen adventures that explores the characters and events beyond the core Star Wars saga. Kathleen Kennedy (Jurassic Park, The Sixth Sense, Lincoln) and Tony To (Band of Brothers, The Pacific) are producing the Lucasfilm production.

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Teaser Trailer Features Original Music by John Williams
The first teaser trailer for Episode VII in the Star Wars series, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, premiered in select theaters and online today. John Williams recorded original music for the trailer earlier this month at Sony Pictures’ scoring stage in Los Angeles. Check out the full teaser after the jump. John Williams to Score ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’
Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy announced today at Star Wars Celebration Europe that John Williams will return to score the upcoming sci-fi fantasy sequel Star Wars: Episode VII. J.J. Abrams is directing the film and Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3, Little Miss Sunshine) is writing the screenplay. No plot details have been announced yet, but the characters of the original trilogy, including Luke Skywalker (played by Mark Hamill), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford) are expected to return. Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg serve as consultants, alongside George Lucas. Williams has scored all previous six episodes of the Star Wars saga. Varese Sarabande to Present Music from the Star Wars Universe Concert
Varèse Sarabande Records continues their 35th anniversary celebration with a special tribute performance by the Golden State Pops Orchestra (GSPO) celebrating the Star Wars legacy on June 15, 2013. The Music from the Star Wars Universe concert will feature musical selections from various Star Wars projects including the classic scores composed by John Williams, including Star Wars: Main Title, Imperial March, Princess Leia’s Theme, and Across the Stars from Attack of the Clones. In addition, Varèse will celebrate Joel McNeely‘s release for his score to Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, which will also be performed. Also featured will be music from Star Wars video games, spin-off films and fan films. Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the action thriller Safe House directed by Daniel Espinosa and starring Denzel Washington, Ryan Reynolds, Vera Farmiga, Liam Cunningham, Brendan Gleeson, Robert Patrick and Sam Shepard. The film’s score is written by Ramin Djawadi. Varese Sarabande Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening wide this week is the romantic drama The Vow directed by Michael Sucsy and starring Rachel McAdams, Channing Tatum, Sam Neill, Scott Speedman, Wendy Crewson and Jessica Lange. Sony Classical to Reissue ‘Star Wars: Episode I – The Phanom Menace’ Soundtrack
According to JWfan.net, Sony Classical will be releasing a new edition of the soundtrack for Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace to coincide with the release of the 3D re-release of the film in February. The album featuring the original music composed by John Williams will be a straight re-issue of the soundtrack that was released at the time of the movie’s release in 1999. The album is available to download on Amazon and audio clips can be checked out below. The 3D version of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace directed by George Lucas and starring Ewan McGregor, Liam Neeson, Natalie Portman, Jake Llyod, Ian McDiarmid, Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker will be released in theaters nationwide on February 10, 2012.
