John Swihart has been tapped to score the upcoming CBS comedy We Are Men. The show is created by Rob Greenberg and stars Tony Shalhoub, Jerry O’Connell, Kal Penn, Chris Smith and Rebecca Breeds. The series follows four single guys living in a short-term apartment complex who unexpectedly find camaraderie over their many missteps in love. Greenberg is also executive producing the CBS Television Studios production with Eric and Kim Tannenbaum (Two and a Half Men). Greenberg has previously produced and directed numerous episodes of the CBS hit comedy How I Met Your Mother, which is also scored by Swihart and returns for a ninth and final season this fall.

John Swihart Scoring the FOX Comedy ‘The Goodwin Games’
John Swihart is scoring the upcoming FOX comedy The Goodwin Games. The show is created by Carter Bays and Craig Thomas and stars Scott Foley, Becki Newton, T. J. Miller, Kat Foster and Melissa Tang. The series follows three grown siblings who return home after their father’s death, and unexpectedly find themselves poised to inherit a vast fortune – if they adhere to their late father’s wishes. Bays and Thomas have previously created and are executive producing the CBS hit comedy How I Met Your Mother, which Swihart has been scoring for the past seven years. They are also executive producing The Goodwin Games with Chris Harris and Peyton Reed (The Break-Up, Bring It On) who also directed the pilot episode. The 20th Century Fox Television production is set to premiere in early 2013 on FOX.

Earlier this past week, the Cartoon Network premiered Dreamworks Animation’s Dragons: Riders of Berk based on the Academy Award-nominated hit film How to Train Your Dragon. The show’s voice talent includes the cast from the movie, including Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and T. J. Miller. John Paesano (Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas) is composing the series’ music and is incorporating John Powell’s themes from the feature version into his score. The first episode is available to download for free on iTunes and the show airs every Tuesday night on the Cartoon Network. ‘For a Good Time, Call…’ Score Album Announced
Lakeshore Records has announced a score album for the indie comedy For a Good Time, Call… The album features the film’s original score composed by John Swihart (Napoleon Dynamite, How I Met Your Mothers). The soundtrack will be released digitally on September 11, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out below. As previously announced, the label has also released a separate soundtrack album featuring the movie’s songs. For a Good Time, Call… directed by Jamie Travis and starring Ari Graynor, Lauren Miller, Justin Long, Mark Webber and James Wolk premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival and opened in limited release last weekend.

Three new movies are opening wide this week:
Already in theaters since Wednesday is the gangster movie Lawless directed by John Hillcoat, based on the novel The Wettest County in the World by Matt Bondurant and starring Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, Guy Pearce, Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowski. The film’s music is composed by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis who formed the band The Bootleggers (which also includes Martyn Casey, George Vjestic and David Sardy) for the project. Sony Masterworks has released a soundtrack album featuring both songs and score from the movie. Check out our previous article for the full album details and audio clips. Opening wide today is the horror thriller The Possession directed by Ole Bornedal, produced by Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures and starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, Grant Show and Madison Davenport. Anton Sanko (Rabbit Hole, Big Love) has composed the film’s score. Lionsgate Records has released a soundtrack featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. John Swihart to Score NBC’s ‘Go On’
John Swihart has been hired to score the new NBC comedy Go On. The show stars Matthew Perry as a recent widower and sports talk radio host who is ready to get back to work after the loss of his wife. Laura Benanti, Julie White, Suzy Nakamura, Tyler James Williams, Brett Gelman and John Cho are co-starring. The series is created Scott Silveri who previously worked with Perry on NBC’s Friends. Silveri is also producing the project with Jon Pollack, Todd Holland (Wonderfalls) and Karey Nixon. Holland has also directed the pilot. Go On is set to premiere on September 11, 2012 on will be airing every Tuesday night on NBC.
John Swihart to Score ‘Odd Thomas’
John Swihart is scoring the supernatural thriller Odd Thomas. The movie directed by Stephen Sommers is based on the bestselling novel written by Dean Koontz. The film stars Anton Yelchin as a clairvoyant short-order cook who encounters a mysterious man with links to dark and threatening forces. Willem Dafoe, Patton Oswalt, Addison Timlin and Nico Tortorella are co-starring in the Fusion Films and Sommers Company production. Sommers has also written the screenplay and is producing the project with John Baldecchi (The Mexican, Conan the Barbarian) and Howard Kaplan. The director has previously worked with composers Alan Silvestri on his last three features The Mummy Returns, Van Helsing and G.I. Joe. He has also collaborated with Jerry Goldsmith (The Mummy, Deep Rising), Basil Poledouris (The Jungle Book) and Bill Conti (The Adventures of Huck Finn) earlier in his career.
John Swihart Scoring ‘For a Good Time, Call…’
John Swihart has been tapped to score the upcoming indie comedy For a Good Time, Call….. The film is directed by Jamie Travis who makes his feature directing debut on the film. The movie stars Ari Graynor and Lauren Miller as two women who move in together after a loss of a relationship and a loss of a rent controlled home and start a phone sex line. Justin Long, Mark Webber and James Wolk are co-starring and it has been reported that Seth Rogen will make a cameo appearance in the film. Lauren Miller has also co-written the screenplay for the project with Katie Anne Naylon and both are also serving as producers alongside Josh Kesselman (Death at a Funeral) and Jennifer Weinbaum.
John Swihart Scoring ‘How to Be a Gentleman’
John Swihart is scoring the new CBS comedy How to Be a Gentleman. The show created by David Hornsby (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and based on the nonfiction book of the same name by John Bridges chronicles the friendship between an uptight columnist and his more freewheeling trainer. Hornsby also stars in the comedy alongside Kevin Dillon, Dave Foley, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Rhys Darby and Nancy Lenehan. Adam Chase (Friends) and Ted Schachter are executive producing the project with Hornsby. How to Be a Gentleman is set to debut on September 29, 2011 and will be airing every Thursday night on CBS.
