Universal Music has released a soundtrack album for the Chinese fantasy adventure Soul Snatcher. The album features the film’s original music composed by Joe Hisaishi (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, Departures, Howl’s Moving Castle) . Visit Amazon or any other major digital music service to stream the soundtrack and to check out audio samples. Soul Snatcher is directed by Song Haolin & Yi Liqi and stars Chen Li Nong and Li Xian. The movie produced by Jiang Zhiqiang follows fox spirit Bai Shisan who disguises as a young man and travels to the human world in search of a divine pill in order to achieve immortality and befriends an innocent scholar whom he later realizes is the key to his transcendence.

Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the thriller Non-Stop directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and starring Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore, Anson Mount, Michellle Dockery, Scott McNairy, Lupita Nyong’o and Corey Stoll. The film’s original music is composed by John Ottman (X2, The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie) who previously scored the director’s features Unknown, Orphan and House of Wax. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally earlier this week and a CD version will be coming out on March 4. Also opening wide is the biblical drama Son of God produced by Mark Burnett & Roma Downey and starring Diogo Morgado, Greg Hicks, Adrian Schiller, Darwin Shaw, Sebastian Knapp, Joe Wredden, Simon Kunz and Paul Marc Davis. Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe who also scored the mini-series The Bible, which the film is based on, have composed the movie’s original music. Republic Records has released a soundtrack featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by Cee Lo Green, OneRepublic, Steven Stern & George Krikes and Hillsong United. Ramin Djawadi, Aaron Zigman, Cliff Martinez, J. Ralph, Joe Hisaishi and Henry Jackman Invited to Join the Academy
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited 276 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures to join the organization. Among the invited artists this year are a number of film composers including Ramin Djawadi whose credits include Iron Man, Clash of the Titans, Safe House and the upcoming Pacific Rim, Cliff Martinez whose film projects include Contagion, Drive and Best Picture nominee Traffic, Joe Hisaishi who scored the Academy Award-winning animated film Spirited Away, Aaron Zigman who is best known for his work on such films as The Notebook, Sex and the City and Bridge to Terabithia, Henry Jackman who scored this year’s Best Animated Film nominee Wreck-It-Ralph and J. Ralph who was nominated for Best Original Song this year for his work on Chasing Ice. In addition, Prince whose work for film includes Purple Rain and Happy Feet was also invited, as well as Siedah Garrett who performed last year’s Oscar nominated song Real in Rio from Rio.
