Four new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Expected to top the weekend box office is the thriller Split written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan and starring James McAvoy, Anya Taylor-Joy, Betty Buckley, Jessica Sula and Haley Lu Richardson. The film’s original music is composed by West Dylan Thordson (Foxcatcher, Joy, The Jinx). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Also opening wide today is the action sequel xXx: Return of Xander Cage directed by D.J. Caruso and starring Vin Diesel, Deepika Padukone, Ruby Rose, Nina Dobrev, Toni Collette, Donnie Yen, Tony Jaa, Kris Wu, Michael Bisping, and Samuel L. Jackson. Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3, Fast & Furious series, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Now You See Me) and Robert Lydecker (Sleepy Hollow) have composed the film’s original music. ‘Ice and the Sky’ Soundtrack Announced

Cristal Records will release a soundtrack album for the documentary Ice and the Sky (La Glace et le Ciel). The album features the film’s original music composed by Cyrille Aufort (Splice, A Royal Affair, Ombline). The soundtrack will be released overseas on October 16, 2015. Ice and the Sky is directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Luc Jacquet (March of the Penguins) and centers on glaciologist Claude Lorius who in 1957 began his study of Antarctic ice and in the 60s was the first to be concerned by global warming and its consequences for the planet. The documentary premiered as the closing night film at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and will be released in several European markets this fall.

‘Astérix and Obélix: God Save Britannia’ Soundtrack Announced

The details of the soundtrack album for the family adventure movie Astérix and Obélix: God Save Britannia (Astérix et Obélix: Au service de Sa Majesté) have been revealed. The album features the film’s original score composed by Klaus Badelt (Pirates of the Caribbean, Constantine) performed by the London Metropolitan Orchestra, as well as additional music by Cyrille Aufort (Splice) and Christopher Carmichael (Seven Days in Utopia). Also included are two songs by BB Brunes and Travis Hawley’s I Wanna Go Now. The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 15, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Astérix and Obélix: God Save Britannia is directed by Laurent Tirard and stars Gerard Depardieu, Edouard Baer, Fabrice Luchini, Catherine Deneuve, Guillaume Gallienne and Vincent Lacoste.

‘Ombline’ Soundtrack Details

Naïve Records will be releasing a soundtrack album for the French drama Ombline. The album features the film’s original score composed by Cyrille Aufort (Splice, A Royal Affair), as well as two tracks by La Kumpania Zelwer and a song by Casey. The soundtrack will be released digitally on September 10, 2012 (and physically as an import) and will be available to download on Amazon. Ombline is written and directed by Stéphane Cazes and stars Mélanie Thierry as a 20-year-old woman who finds out that she is pregnant and obliged to give birth while incarcerated. Nathalie Becue, Corinne Masiero and Catherine Salee are co-starring. The film premiered at the Paris Cinema Fest last month and will be released in France on September 12, 2012.

Gabriel Yared and Cyrille Aufort to Score ‘A Royal Affair’

Gabriel Yared and Cyrille Aufort are co-scoring the historical drama A Royal Affair. The film directed by Nicolaj Arcel (King’s Game, screenwriter of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) centers on the affair between Chr. VII’s German physician, Johan Struensee, and the English born queen of Denmark, Caroline Mathilda in the early 1770’s. The movie stars Mads Mikkelsen as Johan Struensee and Alicia Vikander as Caroline Mathilda. Trine Dyrholm and David Dencik are co-starring and Graum Jørgensen (In a Better World, Meta Louise Foldager (Melancholia and Peter Aalbæk Jensen are producing the Zentropa Entertainment production. The movie is set for a release on March 15, 2012 in several European countries.
