Bear McCreary is composing the score for the upcoming Starz original series Black Sails. The pirate adventure is created by Jon Steinberg (Jericho) & Robert Levine (Touch) follows the tales of Captain Flin and his men twenty years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic Treasure Island. The show’s cast includes Toby Stephens, Luke Arnold, Zach McGowan, Toby Schmitz, Hannah New, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Clara Paget, Tom Hopper and Mark Ryan. Steinberg is executive producing the series with Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller & Andrew Form (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Purge, Friday the 13th). McCreary has previously scored the first season of the Steinberg-produced show Human Target and also composed the music for Starz’s Da Vinci’s Demons.

‘The Character of Music’ Panel at Comic-Con Announced
The line-up for this year’s The Character of Music panel at Comic-Con in San Diego has been announced. A number of composer and executive producer teams will discuss the dynamics of music in film and television. Panelists include Bear McCreary and Jonathan Steinberg (Black Sails), Brian Reitzell and Bryan Fuller (Hannibal), and Dino Meneghin and Jeff Davis (Teen Wolf). The participants will discuss their working relationship, how music plays a character in their stories and the intense process of scoring their projects. The panel will be moderated by BMI’s director of film and TV relations Anne Cecere and Chandler Poling of White Bear PR. The event will take place on Friday, July 19 at 3:00pm in Room 32AB. Syfy’s ‘Defiance’ Soundtrack Details
Sparks & Shadows will release a soundtrack album for Syfy’s original series Defiance. The album features selections from the show’s original music composed by Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead). Also included are four songs by the indie rock/pop band Young Beautiful in a Hurry. The soundtrack will be released digitally on June 17, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. ‘Da Vinci’s Demons’ Soundtrack Details
Sparks & Shadows will release a soundtrack album for the Starz original series Da Vinci’s Demons. The album features selections from the original score from the show’s first season composed by Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles). The soundtrack includes more than 90 minutes of music and will be released digitally on May 28, 2013. A 2-CD collector’s edition will be released later this year. Audio clips will be added to this article within the next couple of days. The label has previously released the composer’s main titles theme from the show. Da Vinci’s Demons created by David S. Goyer and starring Tom Riley, Laura Haddock, Lucrezia Donati, Elliot Cowan, Lorenzo Medici and Lara Pulver currently airs Friday nights on Starz with the season finale scheduled to premiere on June 7.

Defiance is set in a post-apocalyptic future St. Louis after a lengthy war on Earth between humans and a consortium of invading alien races has completely transformed the surface of the planet. Composer Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead) has launched his own record label Sparks & Shadows and announced the first couple of releases. Coming out on April 12, 2013 as a digital single is his main theme for the new Starz original series Da Vinci’s Demons. The single will be released on April 12 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A full soundtrack album will be available digitally to coincide with the season one finale and a limited edition CD, with exclusive bonus content, is planned for the summer. Da Vinci’s Demons created by David S. Goyer and starring Tom Riley, Laura Haddock, Lucrezia Donati, Elliot Cowan, Lorenzo Medici and Lara Pulver premieres this Friday, April 12 on Starz. ‘The Walking Dead’ Soundtrack Announced
Republic Records will release a soundtrack album for the AMC hit series The Walking Dead. The album features a remix of the main titles theme of the show composed by Bear McCreary, as well as several songs used in the third season of the zombie series by artists including Jamie N Commons, Voxhaul Broadcast, Baby Bee, Emily Kinney and Lauren Cohan, Delta Spirit, Of Monsters and Men and Fink. The soundtrack will be released on March 19, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Walking Dead currently airs every Sunday night on AMC. The second part of the third season just premiered last night to a new ratings high.
‘A Very Eureka Christmas’ Soundtrack Announced
Back Lot Music will release a new soundtrack album for the Syfy original series Eureka. A Very Eureka Christmas features the score for the two Christmas episodes O Little Town from 2010 and Do You See What I See from 2011 composed by Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead). The soundtrack will be released on November 20, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on iTunes, where you can also check out audio clips. La-La Land Records has previously released a soundtrack album featuring highlights from the composer’s score for the series (click here to order the release). Eureka created by Jaime Paglia, Bruce Miller and Todd Sharp and starring Colin Ferguson, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Joe Morton, Erica Cerra, Neil Grayston and Niall Matter aired on Syfy from 2006 until July 2012. Less than a day following the announcement of Bear McCreary‘s involvement in the sci-fi thriller The Europa Report. Starz Entertainment and BBC Worldwide Productions have revealed today that the composer has also signed on score the upcoming historical fantasy series Da Vinci’s Demons. The show is created by David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight) who also directed the first two episodes and stars Tom Riley, Laura Haddock, Lucrezia Donati, Elliot Cowan, Lorenzo Medici and Lara Pulver. The eight-part series follows the untold story of the world’s greatest genius, Leonardo da Vinci, during his turbulent youth in Renaissance Florence. Goyer is producing the project with Julie Gardner (Dr. Who, Torchwood) and BBC Worldwide Productions’ Head Jane Tranter (Rome).
