Alan Menken has composed the original score for the upcoming documentary Howard. The film is directed by Don Hahn (Waking Sleeping Beauty) who produced numerous Disney productions, including Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and The Nightmare Before Christmas. The movie centers on the legendary lyricist Howard Ashman who penned the lyrics and collaborated with Menken on Little Shop of Horrors, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast before he passed away at the height of the AIDS crisis in 1991.

‘Beauty and the Beast’ Legacy Collection Soundtrack Details
The full details of the Walt Disney Records Legacy Collection release for the 1991 animated classic Beauty and the Beast have been revealed. The album features the remastered original songs and score from the film composed by Alan Menken (Aladdin, Enchanted, The Little Mermaid, Pocahontas, Tangled), as well as seven demo tracks. Howard Ashman provided the songs’ lyrics. Menken’s score and the composers’ title song were honored with Academy Awards in 1992. The 2-CD set will be released on February 9, 2018 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Beauty and the Beast is directed by Gary Trousdale & Kirk Wise and features the voices of Paige O’Hara, Robby Benson, Richard White, Jerry Orbach, David Ogden Stiers and Angela Lansbury.
‘Tangled: The Series’ Soundtrack Announced
Walt Disney Records has announced the first full soundtrack album for Disney’s Tangled: The Series. The album features the songs from the show composed by Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Enchanted) and featuring lyrics by Glenn Slater (Galavant), including previously unreleased Set Yourself Free and Ready As I’ll Ever Be from the first season finale premiering this weekend. The soundtrack will be released digitally on January 19, 2018. and will be available to download on Amazon. The label has previously released a soundtrack EP featuring four songs from the show, as well as the end credits song More of Me by Natasha Bedingfield.
‘Tangled: The Series’ Soundtrack EP to Be Released
Walt Disney Records will release a soundtrack EP for Disney’s Tangled: The Series. The EP features four original songs from the show written by Academy Award winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Enchanted) and featuring lyrics by Glenn Slater (Galavant), including the tracks Let Me Make You Proud performed by Jeremy Jordan (as Varian) and I’ve Got This by Mandy Moore (as Rapunzel) from tonight’s episode Queen for a Day. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, November 20 and will be available to download on Amazon. Tangled: The Series is developed by Shane Prigmore & Chris Sonnenburg based on Disney’s 2010 feature Tangled and features the voices of Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi, Julie Bowen, Clancey Brown, Eden Espinosa, Jeff Ross, Richard Kind, Jeffrey Tambor and Paul F. Tompkin.
Alan Menken to Collaborate with Pasek and Paul on New Songs for ‘Aladdin’ Live Action Adaptation
Alan Menken revealed today at Disney’s D23 Expo that he is writing new songs for the upcoming film adaptation of the animated Disney classic Aladdin. He will be collaborating with Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (Dear Evan Hansen, La La Land) who will be providing the lyrics for the songs. Howard Ashman and Tim Rice wrote the lyrics for Menken’s songs from the 1992 film, which are also expected to be featured in the remake. Guy Ritchie (Snatch, Sherlock Holmes) is attached to direct the movie, which will star Mena Massoud in the title role, alongside Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine and Will Smith as the Genie.
‘Galavant’ – The Unreleased Collection Announced
Hollywood Records will release a new soundtrack album for the ABC musical comedy Galavant. The album features previously unreleased songs from the show composed by Academy Award winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Enchanted) and featuring lyrics by Glenn Slater (Tangled, Home on the Range). Galavant: The Unreleased Collection will be released digitally tomorrow, May 12 and will be available to download on Amazon. The label will also release a physical Amazon On Demand version, Galavant: The Complete Collection, featuring the unreleased songs and all 42 tracks from the Season 1 & Season 2 soundtrack soon. Opening in most theaters is Disney’s live action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast directed by Bill Condon and starring Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Kevin Kline, Josh Gad, Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ian McKellen, Audra McDonald and Emma Thompson. The film’s original music is composed by Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin). He also wrote the movie’s classic songs with Howard Ashman and the new songs with lyricist Tim Rice.
