Deutsche Grammophon will release a full soundtrack album for James Gray’s sci-drama Ad Astra. The album features the film’s original score composed by Max Richter (The Leftovers, Mary Queen of Scots, Hostiles, Miss Sloane, Taboo, Waltz with Bashir), as well as additional music by Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, The LEGO Batman Movie, Genius) and Nils Frahm. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, October 18 and will be available to stream/download on Amazon Music, where you can also listen to audio clips. A CD version is available for pre-order here. A track from Richter’s score has previously been released as a digital single when the movie opened in theaters last month. Ad Astra is co-written and directed by Gray and stars Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga, Liv Tyler and Donald Sutherland.

Also opening wide is the action movie Rambo: Last Blood directed by Adrian Grunberg and starring Sylvester Stallone, Paz Vega, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Adrianna Barraza, Yvette Monreal, Genie Kim, Joaquin Cosio and Oscar Jaenada. Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Fast & Furious, Crazy Rich Asians) who has previously scored 2008’s Rambo has composed the film’s original music. Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, The LEGO Batman Movie, Home, Terminator Genisys, Genius) is composing new music for the upcoming sci-fi drama Ad Astra. The composer’s score is being recorded at the Synchron Stage in Vienna. Balfe will receive an additional music credit alongside original composer Max Richter who finished recording his score earlier this summer at AIR Studios in London. Ad Astra is directed by James Gray (The Lost City of Z, We Own the Night, The Immigrant) and stars Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga, Liv Tyler and Donald Sutherland. The movie follows an astronaut as he travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet.
Max Richter Scoring James Gray’s ‘Ad Astra’
Max Richter is scoring the upcoming sci-fi drama Ad Astra. The film is directed by James Gray (The Lost City of Z, We Own the Night, The Immigrant) and stars Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga, Jamie Kennedy and Donald Sutherland. The movie follows a man who journeys across the solar system in search of his missing father, a dangerous renegade scientist. Gray also co-wrote the screenplay with Ethan Gross. Pitt and Grey are also producing the project for Plan B’s Dede Gardner & Jeremy Kleiner (12 Years a Slave, Moonlight, The Big Short) and RT Features’ Rodrigo Teixeira (Call Me By Your Name), Keep Your Head Productions’ Anthony Katagas (Nerve).
