Volker Bertelmann was honored with his first Academy Award for his score for Edward Berger’s Netflix World War I drama All Quiet on the Western Front at tonight’s 95th Oscar ceremony. Bertelmann who also won his first BAFTA Award last month for his work on the movie has previously been Oscar-nominated for 2016’s Lion (co-scored with Dustin O’Halloran). The other nominated composers in the Original Score category were Justin Hurwitz (Babylon), Carter Burwell (The Banshees of Inisherin), John Williams (The Fabelmans) and Son Lux (Everything Everywhere All at Once).

The track, which is written by Ryan Lott, David Byrne & Mitski, is one of the five nominees in the Original Song category and has been released on the film’s official soundtrack album last April by A24 Music.

Executive producers Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner announced today that actress/singer Sofia Carson, accompanied by songwriter Diane Warren, will perform the Academy Award-nominated song Applause from the anthology film Tell It like a Woman at the 95th Oscar ceremony, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, on Sunday, March 12, 2023. The song, which is written by Warren, is one of the five nominated songs in the Original Song category and has been released as a digital single in December.

The nominations for the 95th Academy Awards will be announced on January 24, 2023 and the awards show will be held on March 12.
