Chris Stracey and Este Haim (of the Grammy Award-nominated band HAIM) have teamed up to compose the original music for the new Netflix limited series Maid. The show is created by Molly Smith Metzler and stars Margaret Qualley, Andie MacDowell, Nick Robinson, Anika Noni Rose, Tracy Vilar, Billy Burke and Rylea Nevaeh Whittet. The drama is inspired by the New York Times best-selling memoir, Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive, by Stephanie Land and revolves around a young mother who – after fleeing an abusive relationship – finds a job cleaning houses as she fights to provide for her child and build them a better future. Hillman Grad Records and Def Jam Recordings have released a soundtrack album for the documentary The One and Only Dick Gregory. The album is produced by record producer and composer Kyle Townsend (who also scored the film) and features songs by artists such as Lupe Fiasco, Big K.R.I.T., Bobby Sessions, Cory Henry, Statik Selektah, Danni Baylor, BJ The Chicago Kid & others. The One and Only Dick Gregory is directed by Andre Gaines and examines activist and pop-culture icon Dick Gregory, whose work as a self-described ‘agitator’ shaped a generation demanding justice. Silva Screen Records has announced a soundtrack album for the documentary The Beatles and India. The album features the film’s original score composed by Benji Merrison (SAS: Red Notice, Dynasties, General Magic, Forces of Nature with Brian Cox) who recorded his music at Abbey Road Studios 2 in London, the legendary home of The Beatles recording sessions, Budapest, Hungary and Pune, India. The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 29, 2021 and will be available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services. George Fenton (Dangerous Liaisons, Groundhog Day, Anna and the King, Ever After, The Blue Planet) has composed the original music for the upcoming documentary Elizabeth. The movie marks the final film of late director Roger Michell (Notting Hill, Changing Lanes) who passed away last week and centers on the longest-lived and longest-reigning British monarch. The Free Range Films production is produced by Michell and Kevin Loader (The Death of Stalin, The Personal History of David Copperfield). Fenton has previously scored Michell’s last feature The Duke, which premiered at last year’s Venice Film Festival and has been picked up for domestic distribution by Sony Pictures Classics for a release in 2022. Deadline is reporting that Grammy Award-nominated singer/songwriter Justin Tranter is writing and producing original songs for the upcoming Netflix original film Purple Hearts. Michael Kiwanuka has recorded the original song Beautiful Life for the new Netflix documentary Convergence: Courage in a Crisis. The track is written and performed by the Grammy Award-nominated singer/songwriter and will be featured in the film directed by Academy Award winner Orlando von Einsiedel (The White Helments, Virgunga) who spotlights a cross-section of global citizens in the COVID-19 crisis. A first clip from the song is featured in the trailer embedded after the jump. The director’s regular composer Patrick Jonsson (Black Earth Rising, On Her Shoulders) has written the original score for the movie, which spans eight countries and nine individual stories and reveals the power of compassion and community in the face of a crisis.
