Deadline is reporting that Grammy Award-nominated singer/songwriter Justin Tranter is writing and producing original songs for the upcoming Netflix original film Purple Hearts. The movie is directed by Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum (Ramona and Beezus, Aquamarine) and stars Sofia Carson (who is also co-writing and performing additional music for the project), Nicholas Galitzine, Chosen Jacobs, John Harlan Kim, Anthony Ippolito, Kat Cunning, Scott Deckert, Sarah Rich and Linden Ashby. The romantic drama is based on the novel of the same title by Tess Wakefield and tells the story of an aspiring singer-songwriter and a marine who in spite of their many differences and against all odds, fall hopelessly in love. Kyle Jarrow (Valor) and Liz Garcia (The Lifeguard, One Percent More Humid) wrote the screenplay. Leslie Morgenstein (Gossip Girl, Everything, Everything, Pretty Little Liars) and Elysa Koplovitz Dutton (The Sun Is Also a Star, Work It) are producing the Alloy Entertainment production. Tranter has previously co-written several songs for film and TV projects, including Ferdinand, Klaus, The Bravest Knight and Alita: Battle Angel. Purple Hearts is currently shooting in California and is expected to premiere in 2022.
