Weekly Film Music Roundup (October 18, 2024)

Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the horror sequel Smile 2 written and directed by Parker Finn and starring Naomi Scott, Kyle Gallner, Rosemarie DeWitt, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Peter Jacobson, Raúl Castillo, Lukas Gage, Ray Nicholson and Dylan Gelula. The film’s original score is composed by Cristobal Tapia de Veer (The White Lotus, Utopia, The Third Day, The Girl with All the Gifts) who previously scored the 2022 original movie. Interscope Records has released a soundtrack EP featuring the original songs from the movie performed by Scott (as her character Skye Riley) last Friday. A separate score album is expected to be coming out next week. Also opening nationwide is the comedy Goodrich written and directed by Hallie Meyers-Shyer and starring Michael Keaton, Mila Kunis, Lauren Benanti, Carmen Ejogo, Kevin Pollak, Michael Urie, Danny Deferrari, Nico Haraga, Viven Lyra Blair and Andie MacDowell. Christopher Willis (The Death of Stalin, The Personal History of David Copperfield, Veep, Schmigadoon!,The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse, Old Dads) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. ‘Gracie & Pedro: Pets to the Rescue!’ Soundtrack EP Released

Second Chance Productions has released a soundtrack EP for the animated feature Gracie & Pedro: Pets to the Rescue!. The 5-track EP features the original score from the movie co-written by the film’s composer Deon Van Heerden (Warhammer 40,000: Shootas, Blood & Teef, Broforce). Lakeshore Records has released the main title theme from the Peacock limited series Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist. The track written by the show’s composer Scott Bomar (Black Snake Moan, Dolemite Is My Name, Mississippi Grind, Hustle & Flow, Here Comes Rusty) is now available to stream/download on Amazon and most other major digital music services. Also listen to the track after the jump. Fight Night is created by Shaye Ogbonna and stars Kevin Hart, Samuel L. Jackson, Taraji P. Henson, Terrence Howard and Don Cheadle. Warner Records has released the original song Bricks from the drama Exhibiting Forgiveness. The track co-written (with the film’s composer Jherek Bischoff) and performed by Andra Day is now available to stream/download on all major digital music services, including Amazon. Hollywood Records & Marvel Music have released a new “pop version” of the original song The Ballad of the Witches’ Road from Marvel Television’s Disney+ original series Agatha All Along. The track written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez & Robert Lopez, produced by Jack Antonoff & the Academy Award-winning songwriters and performed by the indie pop band Japanese Breakfast is now available to stream/download on all major digital music services, including Amazon. Also listen to the song, which will be featured in the show’s final episode (to debut on October 30) after the jump. Quartet Records will release a soundtrack album for Pedro Almodóvar’s English language feature debut The Room Next Door. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee Alberto Iglesias (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Volver, The Constant Gardener, The Kite Runner, The Skin I Live In, Parallel Mothers, Exodus: Gods and Kings). The Newton Brothers (X-Men ’97, Doctor Sleep, The Haunting of Hill House, Five Nights at Freddy’s, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Forever Purge) are reuniting with director Steven C. Miller (Silent Night, Marauders) on the upcoming horror thriller Werewolves. The film starring Frank Grillo, Katrina Law, Ilfenesh Hadera, James Michael Cummings & Lou Diamond Phillips is set in a world, where a supermoon event triggers a latent gene in every human on the planet, turning anyone who entered the moonlight into a werewolf for that one night, and follows two scientists as they try to survive a worldwide werewolf apocalypse.
