Hans Zimmer to receive star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced that Hans Zimmer will be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The ceremony will take place on Wednesday, December 8 at 11:30 a.m. on Hollywood Boulevard. Christopher Nolan is expected to speak during the event. Zimmer’s star will be the 2,426th on the Walk of Fame, with only a few film composers (including Maurice Jarre, Alfred Newman, Randy Newman, Elmer Bernstein, Bill Conti, Henry Mancini and most recently Alan Menken) among the recipients. Hans Zimmer will be dedicating his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to his longtime friend and publicist, Ronni Chasen.

Film Music Reporter has learned that Lucas Vidal has been hired to score the upcoming action thriller The Cold Light of Day. In the movie, a young American uncovers a conspiracy during his attempt to save his family, who were kidnapped while on vacation in Spain. The movie directed by Mabrouk El Mechri (JCVD) stars Bruce Willis, Sigourney Weaver and Henry Cavill. The movie, which is currently in post-production marks the first big budget feature for the Spanish composer. Summit Entertainment is planning a 2011 release. Read the rest of this entry »

David Arnold is currently recording the score for the upcoming sci-fi comedy Paul. In the movie, two British comic-book geeks traveling across the U.S. encounter an alien outside Area 51. The movie is directed by Greg Mottola (Superbad, Adventureland) and stars Simon Pegg, Sigourney Weaver, Kristen Wiig, Jane Lynch, Jason Bateman, Will Hader and Seth Rogen as the voice of Paul. The movie is produced by Nira Park, who previously worked with David Arnold on the Simon Pegg-starring 2007 comedy Hot Fuzz. Universal Pictures is planning to release Paul on March 18, 2011 in the US and on Valentine’s Day in the UK. Read the rest of this entry »

Only one movie opens wide this weekend:

The Warrior’s Way starring Dong-gun Jang, Danny Huston, Geoffrey Rush and Kate Bosworth features a score by Javier Navarrete. In the movie, a warrior-assassin is forced to hide in a small town in the American Badlands after refusing a mission. No soundtrack release has been announced so far. According to Thompson on Hollywood, Hans Zimmer revealed in a recent interview on Tuesday’s Inception DVD and Blu-Ray release party that he is going to score the upcoming Zack Snyder-directed adaptation of Superman. The movie will be produced by Christopher Nolan and is set for a holiday 2012 release. Zimmer also talked about his thoughts on scoring Superman to NBC San Diego.

Hans Zimmer is also set to start scoring the fourth part in the Pirates of the Caribbean series in January of next year. In Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Jack Sparrow and Barbossa embark on a quest to find the elusive fountain of youth, only to discover that Blackbeard and his daughter are after it too. The movie reunites producer Jerry Bruckheimer with cast members Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush and adds the new director Rob Marshall and cast members Ian McShane, Richard Griffiths, Penelope Cruz and Judi Dench. Zarathustra Records will release a soundtrack album for Julie Taymor’s feature-film adaptation of Shakespeare’s last play The Tempest. The soundtrack for the movie starring Helen Mirren marks the first release of Goldenthal’s music label and will be released on December 14. Goldenthal’s indie-rock driven original score album features vocals by Beth Gibbons (Portishead) and Reeve Carney (Carney, star of SpiderMan: Turn Off The Dark, on Broadway) and musicians Benjamin Curtis (Secret Machines), Page Hamilton (Helmet), Mark Stewart (Steve Reich, Ornette Coleman) as well as the composer himself on keyboards to bring the surreal world of the film alive. ‘True Grit’ soundtrack release announced

Nonesuch Records has announced a soundtrack album for the upcoming western True Grit. The album features selections of the score by composer Carter Burwell, who regularly works with the film’s directors Joel and Ethan Coen. The album will be released on December 21. In the movie starring Jeff Bridges, Josh Brolin and Matt Damon, a tough U.S. Marshal helps a stubborn young woman track down her father’s murderer.
