Only one movie is opening wide this weekend:

Opening nationwide today after an IMAX pre-release yesterday is the 23rd James Bond movie Skyfall directed by Sam Mendes and starring Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Albert Finney, Ralph Fiennes and Ben Whishaw. The film’s title song is performed by Adele and is available to download here. Thomas Newman has composed the movie’s score. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. For audio clips and the full album details, check out our previous article. Opening in limited release is the biographical drama Lincoln directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Hal Holbrook, John Hawkes, David Strathairn, James Spader, Tim Blake Nelson, Jeremy Strong, Bruce McGill and Joseph Crosmarks. The film’s music is composed by John Williams. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring Williams’ score. ‘The Day of the Crows’ Soundtrack Announced

Milan Records will release a soundtrack album for the French animated feature The Day of the Crows (Le jour des corneilles). The album features the film’s music composed and conducted by Simon Leclerc. The soundtrack will be released digitally on November 19, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips will be added to this article within the next few weeks. The Day of the Crows is directed by Jean-Christophe Dessaint and follows a child and his father who  lead a wild and hard life in utmost isolation in a cabin in the deep of the forest. The voice talent of the French version includes Lorànt Deutsch, Jean Reno, Isabelle Carré and Claude Chabrol. Read the rest of this entry »

Craig Wedren to Score David Wain’s ‘They Came Together’

Craig Wedren is reteaming with writer/director David Wain on the upcoming comedy They Came Together. The film stars Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Ed Helms, Max Greenfield, Cobie Smulders, Christopher Meloni, Melanie Lynskey, Michael Ian Black and Michael Shannon. The movie has been described as a parody of romantic comedies and follows a corporate businessman whose company is threatening to shut down a small store. Michael Showalter (Wet Hot American Summer, The Baxter) has co-written the script with Wain and is also producing the comedy. ‘This is 40’ Soundtrack Details

The details of the soundtrack album for Judd Apatow’s comedy This is 40 have been revealed. The album features original songs by Norah Jones, Fiona Apple, Graham Parker and Lindsey Buckingham (all produced by Jon Brion), as well as new tracks from Wilco and Ryan Adams created specifically for the film. Also featured are tracks from Paul Simon, Loudon Wainwright, Yoko Ono, and The Avett Brothers, as well as a theme from the original score composed by Jon Brion (Magnolia, Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind). The soundtrack will be released on December 11, 2012 by Capitol Records and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio clips. This is 40 written and directed by Apatow stars Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann who reprise their roles from Knocked Up and also stars John Lithgow, Megan Fox, Iris Apatow, Maude Apatow, Melissa McCarthy, Jason Segel, Robert Smigel, Charlyne Yi and Albert Brooks. ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ Soundtrack Preview

Audio clips from the soundtrack for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey have appeared online. The film’s music is composed and conducted by Academy Award-winning composer Howard Shore. Jonathan Goldsmith Scoring ‘Compulsion’

Jonathan Goldsmith has recently recorded his score for the psychological thriller Compulsion. The film is directed by Egidio Coccimiglio and stars Heather Graham and Carrie-Anne Moss as  two neighbors dealing with obsessions that have taken over each of their lives. Joe Mantegna and Kevin Dillon are co-starring Floyd Byars (Masterminds) has written the screenplay based on the South Korean film 301, 302 and Gary Howsam (The Tudors) and Bill Marks are producing the project. Goldsmith has previously worked with the producers on the 2010 comedy biopic Casino Jack. Compulsion has been picked up by Dimension Films for domestic distribution. Read the rest of this entry »

Henry Jackman to Score ‘The End of the World’

Henry Jackman is currently scoring the upcoming apocalyptic comedy The End of the World. The film marks the directorial debut of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg who have previously co-written such films as Superbad, Pineapple Express and The Green Hornet. Rogen also stars in the movie alongside James Franco, Jonah Hill, Emma Watson, Jay Baruchel, Jason Segel, Rihanna, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Aziz Ansari, David Krumholtz, Kevin Hart and Michael Cera who all play themselves facing the apocalypse while stuck at Franco’s apartment. Rogen and Goldberg have also written the screenplay and are producing the Mandate Pictures and Point Grey Pictures with James Weaver (50/50). Read the rest of this entry »

Bret McKenzie to Write New Songs for ‘The Muppets 2’

Producer Todd Lieberman has revealed in an interview with Collider (via The Playlist) that he will be returning to write new songs for Disney’s upcoming sequel The Muppets 2. McKenzie has written the original songs for last year’s hit reboot of the franchise and ended up winning an Academy Award for the song Man or Muppet. James Bobin (Flight of the Conchords) who directed the first part is returning to direct the sequel. He is also co-writing the script with Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall). It has recently been announced that Christoph Waltz will play an interpol agent. Lieberman is producing again with David Hoberman (The Fighter, The Proposal). No word yet on whether composer Christophe Beck will also be returning to write the score. The Muppets 2 is set to be released towards the end of 2013.

The details of the soundtrack album for the biographical comedy drama Hitchcock have beem revealed. The album features the film’s original score composed by Danny Elfman. The soundtrack will be released on December 4, 2012 by Sony Classical and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips from the album below. Hitchcock is directed Sacha Gervasi and stars Anthony Hopkins in the title role, alongside Helen Mirren, Scarlett Johansson, James D’Arcy, Toni Collette, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jessica Biel and Danny Huston. Atli Orvarsson Scoring ‘Evidence’

Atli Orvarsson has recently reunited with director Olatunde Osunsanmi on the upcoming thriller Evidence. The film stars Stephen Moyer, Radha Mitchell, Nolan Gerard Funk, Dale Dickey, Caitlin Stasey, Torrey DeVitto, Albert Kuo and Harry Lennix. The movie follows a detective who hunts down a killer using video footage shot by the victims of a massacre at an abandoned gas station. John Swetnam has written the screenplay. Marc Platt (Drive, Wanted) is producing the project through his own production company, alongside David Lancaster & Michel Litvak (Legion, Bobby) through Bold Films and Anthony Rhulen (The Butterfly Effect, Lucky Number Slevin) through FilmEngine.
