Four new movies are opening wide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters this week is the horror sequel Final Destination 5 directed by Steven Quale and starring Nicholas D’Agosto, Emma Bell, Tony Todd and David Koechner. The film’s score is composed by Brian Tyler who is scoring his second movie in the horror series. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score will be released on August 16 by Varese Sarabande. Already in theaters since Wednesday is the drama The Help directed by Tate Taylor and starring Emma Stone, Allison Janney, Sissy Spacek, Viola Davis, Bryce Dallas Howard, Mike Vogel Jessica Chastain and Cicely Tyson. Thomas Newman has written the score for the movie. Varese Sarabande will release the score on September 13 as reported here. A soundtrack featuring songs from the movie, including Mary J. Atli Orvarsson has signed on to score next year’s action comedy Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. The movie directed by Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow) is a continuation of the Brothers Grimm’s Hansel and Gretel fairy tale and stars Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, Famke Janssen and Peter Stormare.  The film is set 15 years after Hansel and Gretel killed the witch who kidnapped them. The siblings have now evolved into bounty hunters who pursue witches. Will Ferrell, Adam McKay (Anchorman, Talladega Nights), Chris Henchy (The Other Guys, Entourage), Kevin J. Messick (A Lot Like Love) and Beau Flynn (The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Journey to the Center of the Earth) are producing. Wirkola co-wrote the screenplay with D.W. Harper. Lakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack release for the upcoming horror thriller Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark. The album features the film’s original score by Marco Beltrami and Buck Sanders. The soundtrack will be released digitally on August 30, 2011 and on CD on September 27 (available for pre-order on Amazon). Audio clips from all tracks on the album can be check out below. Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark directed by Troy Nixey and produced by Guillermo Del Toro stars Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce and Bailee Madison. The first snippet of the music from David Fincher’s upcoming thriller The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo has been uploaded to the official movie website. The film’s music is composed by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Listen to first tease of the score after the jump and check back on this page for updates on the soundtrack. The Newton Brothers have signed on to score the comedy High School. The composer duo is replacing Harold Faltermeyer who finished writing music for the film a while ago. The original version of the film also featured music by Freescha. The movie marks the directorial feature debut of John Stalberg and stars Adrien Brody, Michael Chiklis and Colin Hanks. The comedy centers on a high school valedictorian who gets baked with the local stoner and finds himself the subject of a drug test. Stalberg also co-wrote the script with Stephen Cusco (The Grudge). Warren Zide (American Pie, Final Destination) is producing with Ray Markovich. High School premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival and is currently awaiting a release date. ‘True Blood’ Volume 3 Soundtrack announced

Watertower Music has announced a new soundtrack release for the HBO hit show True Blood. The album includes songs from the show by artists including Karen Olsen featuring Donovan, Neko Case and Nick Cave, Damien Rice, Massive Attack, Nick Lowe and Jace Everett. W.G. Snuffy Walden has been hired to score the upcoming CBS drama A Gifted Man. The show is created by Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich, The Soloist) and stars Patrick Wilson as a well-known surgeon begins seeing his dead ex-wife he starts questioning the meaning of life and his place in the world. Jennifer Ehle, Julie Benz, Liam Aiken and Margo Martindale are co-starring. Carl Beverly and Neal Baer (ER) are executive producing the drama alongside Grant. Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs) directed the pilot. A Gifted Man is set to premiere on September 23, 2011 and will be airing on CBS every Friday night. Read the rest of this entry »

‘Footloose’ Soundtrack announced

Atlantic Records and Warner Music Nashville have announced the details of the soundtrack release for the upcoming remake of Footloose. The album includes a new version of the title song Footloose performed by country star Blake Shelton. Also featured on the soundtrack are Zac Brown, The Smashing Pumpkins, Lissie, Cee Lo Green feat. Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Ella Mae Bowen, Victoria Justice & Hunter Hayes and Big & Rich. Check out the complete track list below. None of the film’s score by Deborah Lurie is included on the album. According to Music by Michael Giacchino, the composer has recently recorded music for the pilot of the new FOX drama Alcatraz. While Giacchino is scoring the pilot, Andrea Datzman will be writing the music for the rest of the season. Datzman previously co-scored last year’s J.J. Abrams-produced NBC drama Undercovers with Chris Tilton after Giacchino also scored the pilot. Alcatraz is created by Elizabeth Sarnoff (Lost, Deadwood) and stars Sarah Jones as a San Francisco detective involved in a grisly homicide case that takes her to America’s most infamous prison, where her prime suspect becomes an inmate who died more than 30 years before. Aaron Zigman has taken over scoring duties on the romantic comedy I Don’t Know How She Does It. He is replacing Rachel Portman who was originally attached to score the movie as reported earlier this summer. The film directed by Douglas McGrath stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Pierce Brosnan, Greg Kinnear, Christina Hendricks, Kelsey Grammer, Seth Meyers and Olivia Munn. The comedy follows a working mother who is desperately trying to juggle marriage, children and a high-stress job as a financial executive. Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada, Morning Glory) wrote the screenplay based on a novel by Allison Pearson. Zigman has previously scored the Sarah Jessica Parker-starring film adaptations of Sex and the City.
