Ludovic Bource has won the European Film Award for his score for Michel Hazanavicius‘ black-and-white romance The Artist in the European Composer cateogory at tonight’s EFA Night 2011. The composer accepted his first European Film Award in person at the EFA ceremony in Berlin. The other composers nominated in the music category were Alexandre Desplat for The King’s Speech, Alberto Iglesias for The Skin I Live In (La piel que habito) and Mihály Vig for The Turin Horse (A Torinoi Lo). Bource is also considered to be one of the frontrunners for this season’s Academy Awards. Bource’s soundtrack for The Artist has been released by Sony Classical. While there are no movies opening wide this weekend, a number of films are receiving a limited release:
The most talked about movie opening this week is the drama Shame directed by Steve McQueen and starring Michael Fassbender, Carey Mulligan, James Badge Dale, Nicole Beharie and Hannah Ware. The film’s score is composed by Harry Escott. A soundtrack album featuring three tracks from the score, as well as several songs from the film performed by artists including Blondie, Howlin’ Wolf and actress Carey Mulligan will be released on December 6 by Sony Music. Receiving an Oscar qualifying run this weekend before opening wider next year is the drama The Lady directed by Luc Besson and starring Michelle Yeoh and David Thewlis. The film’s music is written by the director’s regular musical collaborator Eric Serra. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the song Soldier of Love by Sade has been released overseas by Strategic Marketing Group. ‘Answers to Nothing’ Soundtrack Announced

Lakeshore Records has announced the details of the soundtrack release for the indie drama Answers to Nothing. The album features the original score by composer Craig Richey (Friends with Money, The King of Kong: A Fistful of Dollars), as well as several songs from the movie by artists including Nico Vega, Brian Vander Ark and Imagine Dragons. Null Records has announced the details of the soundtrack for David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The album features the original score from the movie by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, as well as Reznor’s and Karen O’s cover of Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song. The soundtrack will be released digitally on December 9, 2011 (visit iTunes to pre-order the album) and later in the month as a 3-CD set, which is now available for pre-order on Amazon. ‘Welcome to the Punch’ to Feature Music by Harry Escott

Eaton Music has announced that composer Harry Escott is set to score the upcoming British crime thriller Welcome to the Punch. The movie is directed by Eran Creevy and stars James McAvoy as a detective who forms an unlikely union with a criminal as they uncover a conspiracy. Mark Strong, Andrea Riseborough and Peter Mullan are co-starring in the film. Ridley Scott is executive producing via Scott Free Productions and Rory Aitken & Ben Pugh (Shifty), as well as Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Insidious) are the producers of the project. Ilan Eshkeri to Score ‘Austenland’

Ilan Eshkeri has been hired to score the indie romantic comedy Austenland. The film based on a novel by Shannon Hale marks the directorial debut of Jerusha Hess who is best known for co-writing the screenplay of the 2004 indie hit Napoleon Dynamite with her husband Jared Hess. Austenland stars Keri Russell as a single woman in her 30’s who is obsessed with Mr. Darcy of the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. When she decides to decides to spend her life savings on a trip to a Jane Austen-themed resort in England, the woman’s dream of meeting the perfect Regency-era gentleman becomes more real than she could have imagined. JJ Feild, Bret McKenzie, Jennifer Coolidge, Jane Seymour, Rupert Vansittart and James Callis are co-starring. Stephanie Meyer, author of the Twilight books, is among the producers on the project.
