Chris Bacon has been chosen by Smash executive producer and composer Marc Shaiman to write the underscore for this season’s remaining episodes of the musical show. Shaiman has written the series’ underscore himself for the first six episodes and Bacon has taken over scoring duties with episode 7 (The Workshop), which premiered last night. Shaiman and Scott Wittman continue to write the show’s original songs. Since our last update, several new songs have been released digitally, including the Shaiman- & Wittman-penned original songs The 20th Century Fox Mambo (performed by Katherine McPhee), I Never Met a Wolf Who Didn’t Love to Howl (performed by Megan Hilty), Mr. & Mrs. Smith (performed by Hilty and Will Chase), Let’s Be Bad (performed by Hilty) and History Is Made at Night (performed by Hilty and Chase), as well cover versions of It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World (performed by McPhee), A Song for You (performed by Chase), Crazy Dreams (performed by Hilty), Call Me (performed by McPhee), Grenade (performed by Chase) and I Haven’t Met You Yet (performed by Nick Jones). Relativity Music Group will be releasing the official soundtrack album for the upcoming comedy sequel American Reunion. The album features two tracks from the film’s original score composed by Lyle Workman (The 40-Year Old Virgin, Superbad), as well as the movie’s songs by artists including Good Charlotte, Cobra Starship, Stooshe, Pop Levi, The Blue Van, Kopek, Spice Girls, Boyz II Men and Montell Jordan. The soundtrack will be released on April 3, 2012 and will be available to download on Amazon. Check out audio clips from all tracks on the release after the jump. Intrada Records has announced the world premiere soundtrack release for Walt Disney Pictures’ 1991 drama White Fang based on the story by Jack London, directed by Randal Kleiser and starring Ethan Hawke, Klaus Maria Brandauer and James Remar. The album includes both scores written for the film. Disc 1 features the original music by Basil Poledouris who is given primary credit in the finished film. Disc 2 includes almost an hour of the original score written by Hans Zimmer, much of it also featured in the film. Mike Shinoda has announced on his official website that a soundtrack album for the Indonesian martial arts action film The Raid: Redemption will be released this week. The album features the film’s original score written by the Linkin Park member and Joseph Trapanese (who is best known for his collaboration with Daft Punk on Tron:Legacy), as well as the song Razors.Out featuring vocals by Chino from Deftones. The soundtrack will be released digitally on March 20, 2012 and is available to download on iTunes. A CD version is coming out next month and is available to pre-order exclusively on the official soundtrack website, where you can also check out audio previews of the score. The Raid: Redemption is directed by Gareth Huw Evans and centers on a SWAT team that infiltrates and attempts to take over an apartment complex acting as a safe house for a drug lord. John Frizzell is currently finishing up work on the upcoming thriller The Loft. The film directed by Erik Van Looy is an English language remake of his 2008 Belgian hit film Loft. The remake stars Karl Urban, James Marsden, Eric Stonestreet, Wentworth Miller, Rachael Taylor, Isabel Lucas and Rhona Mitra. The movie follows five married friends who share a loft for their extramarital affairs. When the body of an unknown woman is found in the property, they begin to suspect each other of murder. Wesley Strick (A Nightmare on Elm Street) adapted the script from the original version. Steve Golin (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Babel), Paul Green, Matt DeRoss and Adam Shulman are producing for Anonymous Content, alongside Hilde De Laere who produced the original film and an earlier remake, both of which were scored by Wolfram de Marco. Varese Sarabande Records has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the Starz action series Spartacus: Vengeance. The album includes selections of the original score from the show composed by Joseph LoDuca, as well as from last year’s prequel series Spartacus: Gods of the Arena on a second disc. The soundtrack will be released on April 3, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Spartacus: Vengeance starring Liam McIntyre, Lucy Lawless, Manu Bennett, Peter Mensah and Katrina Law follows Spartacus and his gladiator rebellion on the heels of the bloody escape from the House of Batiatus as they begin to strike fear into the heart of the Roman Republic. Watertower Music will be releasing the official soundtrack album for Tim Burton’s supernatural comedy drama Dark Shadows. The album features the film’s original score composed by Danny Elfman. The soundtrack will be released on May 8, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check back on this page for the full album details and audio clips. Dark Shadows based on the classic ABC TV show stars Johnny Depp as the vampire Barnabas Collins who is forced to deal with monsters, ghosts and other supernatural creatures. SoundWorks Collection has published a new video profile on the sound and music of Walt Disney Pictures’ epic fantasy film John Carter directed by Andrew Stanton. The 10-minute video featuring interviews with supervising sound editor Jonathan Null and composer Michael Giacchino and also shows footage from the score’s recording sessions. George S. Clinton has been hired to score the comedy Gods Behaving Badly. The film marks the directorial debut of Academy Award-nominated producer Marc Turtletaub (Little Miss Sunshine) and follows a young couple who encounter a full panoply of gods living in a New York brownstone. Alicia Silverstone and Ebon Moss-Bachrach are starring in the film alongside Christopher Walken as Zeus, John Turturro as Hades, Sharon Stone as Aphrodite, Oliver Platt as Apollo, Edie Falco as Artemis, Phylicia Rashad as Demeter, Nelsan Ellis as Dionysus, Gideon Glick as Eros, Henry Zebrowski as Hermes and Rosie Perez as Persepho. The comedy is based on a novel by Marie Phillips and has been adapted for the screen by Turtletaub and Josh Goldfaben. Only one movie is opening nationwide this weekend:

Expected to top the other films in release at the box office is the action comedy 21 Jump Street directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller and starring Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, Ice Cube, Brie Larson and Ellie Kemper. The film’s score is composed by Mark Mothersbaugh who previously collaborated with the director’s on their animated feature hit Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Opening in limited release is the Spanish-language comedy Casa de mi Padre directed by Matt Piedmont and starring Will Ferrell, Gael Garcia Bernal, Diego Luna, Genesis Rodriguez, Nick Offerman & Pedro Armendariz, Jr. Andrew Feltenstein & John Nau have written the film’s score. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring selections from the score, as well Christina Aguilera’s title song earlier this week.
