Laura Rossi has recently recorded her score for the upcoming comedy drama Song for Marion. The film is written and directed by Paul Andrew Williams and stars Terence Stamp, Gemma Arterton, Vanessa Redgrave and Christopher Eccleston. The movie is set in London and follows a grumpy pensioner who is reluctantly inspired by his beloved wife Marion to join a highly unconventional local choir. Philip Moross (executive music producer of such films as Let Me In and the upcoming Looper) of Coolmore Productions and Ken Marshall (London to Brighton, the upcoming Filth) of Steel Mill Pictures are producing the film, which is produced in partnership with Film House Germany and Egoli Tossell as well as Aegis Film Fund and Northstar Ventures. Hallmark Hall of Fame Productions has re-released the soundtrack album for the 2000 TV drama The Lost Child. The album features the film’s score composed by Mark McKenzie and performed by the Northwest Sinfonia. The soundtrack, which has previously been released by Intrada Records and sold out a couple of years ago, is now available digitally on iTunes, Amazon and other outlets. The Lost Child directed by Karen Arthur and starring Mercedes Ruehl and Jamey Sheridan tells the story of a woman who goes in search of her natural parents and in the process finds her long lost family and her rich cultural heritage. Three new movies are opening in wide release this week:

Already in theaters since this past Tuesday is the comic boot film reboot The Amazing Spider-Man directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans as The Lizard, as well as Martin Sheen, Sally Field and Denis Leary. The film’s music is composed and conducted by James Horner. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. Also opening wide is the crime drama Savages directed by Oliver Stone and starring Aaron Johnson, Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, Benicio Del Toro, Salma Hayek, Uma Thurman, Emile Hirsch, Demian Bichir, Joel David Moore and John Travolta. Adam Peters has composed the film’s original score. Back Lot Music and Varese Sarabande have released a soundtrack album featuring selections from the score, as well as some of the movie’s songs by artists including Bob Dylan, Peter Tosh, Massive Attack and Thievery Corporation. Relativity Music Group will be releasing the official soundtrack album for the 3D stop-motion animated comedy thriller ParaNorman. The album features the film’s original music composed by Jon Brion. The soundtrack will be released on August 14, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check back on this site for the full soundtrack details. ParaNorman directed by Sam Fell and Chris Butler follows a 13-year-old boy who is the only person in a small town that has the abilities to prevent an attack from zombies. The film’s voice talent includes Kodi Smit-McPhee, Casey Affleck, Tempestt Bledsoe, Jeff Garlin, John Goodman, Bernard Hill, Anna Kendrick, Leslie Mann and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. Skrillex (also known as Sonny Moore) and Cliff Martinez are co-scoring the upcoming comedy romance Spring Breakers. The film is written and directed by Harmony Korine and stars James Franco, Gucci Mane, Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine. The movie centers around four college girls whose Florida spring break gets completely out of control after an encounter with a rapper called “Alien”. Chris Hanley (American Psycho, The Virgin Suicides), Jordan Gertner, Charles-Marie Anthonioz and David Zander are producing the project Muse Productions. The project marks the film first scoring assignment for electronic music producer and singer-songwriter Skrillex who has received three Grammy Awards this year. Read the rest of this entry »

Joe Kraemer is currently recording his orchestral score for the upcoming thriller Jack Reacher. The film is written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie and stars Tom Cruise, Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins, Werner Herzog, David Oyelowo and Robert Duvall. The movie is based on the novel One Shot written Lee Child and follows the military policeman-turned-drifter Jack Reacher, who gets sucked into the mystery surrounding the arrest of a sniper accused of killing five random people in a shooting. Cruise is also producing the Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions film with Paula Wagner (The Last Samurai, Mission: Impossible), Don Granger (Snakes on a Plane) and Gary Levinsohn (Saving Private Ryan). The details for the soundtrack album for the dance movie Step Up Revolution have been revealed. The album features the songs featured in the film by artists including Travis Parker, Timbaland, Fergie, Jennifer Lopez, M.I.A., Far East Movement, Sohanny and Vein, Diplo and My Name is Kay. The soundtrack will be released on July 17, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips from all 13 tracks on the release can be checked out here. La-La Land Records has announced its 2012 Comic-Con titles. The four world premiere limited edition soundtrack CDs include Bryan Singer’s X-Men sequel X2 (X-Men United). The 2 CD-set features the expanded score from the film composed by John Ottman, including over 50 minutes of previously unreleased music. Also coming out is the expanded score for the 1996 film adaptation of The Phantom starring Billy Zane, Kristy Swanson, Treat Williams and Catherine Zeta-Jones. The album, which is limited to 3000 copies, features the film’s score composed and conducted by David Newman, including almost 30 minutes of never-before released music. The line-up of the Comic-Con panel Behind the Music with CW3PR: Perfect Sound for TV & Film has been announced. The event will highlight singer and composer collaborations essential to creating poignant and memorable music in TV and film. Panelists will discuss how these dynamic partnerships work and how a singer’s voice can amplify an original score. Panelists include composers Robert Duncan (Castle, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the upcoming Last Resort), Trevor Morris (Immortals, The Borgias, The Tudors) and Danny Jacob (Disney’s Phineas and Ferb, the Lilo and Stitch TV series), as well as singers Lisbeth Scott (True Blood, Avatar, Iron Man 2) and Laura Dickinson (Phineas and Ferb, Universal Pictures’ upcoming Pitch Perfect). The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) hosted its 27th Annual Film & Television Music Awards last Thursday night, June 28, 2012 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. The awards celebration honored composers of the top box office film music, the most performed television music and the top video game music of 2011. The honorees included composers Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore, John Powell, Michael Giacchino, James Newton Howard, Carter Burwell, Trent Reznor and Patrick Doyle.
