WaterTower Music will release a soundtrack album for the crime drama Gangster Squad. The album features songs from and inspired by the movie by artists including Johnny Mercer & The Pied Pipers, Imelda May, Pee Wee King, Kitty Daisy & Lewis, Peggy Lee, Delta Rae and St. Vincent. The soundtrack will be released digitally on January 8, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips after the jump. Premiering tonight on ABC is Hallmark Hall of Fame Production’s original movie Christmas With Holly. The film is directed by Allan Arkush (Heroes, Crossing Jordan) and stars Sean Faris, Eloise Mumford, Daniel Eric Gold, Dana Watkins, Catherine Bèrubè, Alex Paxton-Beesley and Lucy & Josie Gallina. Nathan Wang (The Game Plan, She’s the Man) has composed the movie’s score. The film follows a 6-year-old who writes a letter to Santa Claus asking for a mother for Christmas, after her mother passes away. The details of the soundtrack album for Tom Hooper’s film adaptation of the stage musical Les Misérables have been revealed. The album features the songs from the film composed by Claude-Michel Schonberg and with lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer and performed by cast members including Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Samantha Barks, Eddie Redmayne, Colm Wilkinson and Sacha Baron Cohen. Also included is the new original song Suddenly composed by Schonberg and featuring lyrics by Alain Boublil. Anne Dudley (The Crying Game, The Full Monty) serves as the film’s music producer. The soundtrack will be released on December 25, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also download the album and listen to audio clips. Only one new movie is opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in almost 3000 theaters is the romantic comedy Playing for Keeps directed by Gabriele Muccino and starring Gerard Butler, Jessica Biel, Judy Greer, Dennis Quaid, Uma Thurman and Catherine Zeta-Jones. The film’s music is written by Italian composer Andrea Guerra (Letters to Juliet, Hotel Rwanda) who has previously collaborated with director on The Pursuit of Happiness. No soundtrack album has been announced. The comedy follows a former soccer star who returns home to put his life back together. To learn more about the film, visit the official movie website.

Opening in limited release is the period comedy drama Hyde Park on Hudson directed by Roger Michell and starring Bill Murray, Laura Linney, Olivia Colman, Samuel West, Elizabeth Marvel, Elizabeth Wilson, Eleanor Bron and Olivia Williams. Jeremy Sams (The Mother, Enduring Love) has composed the film’s original score. Relativity Music Group will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score next Tuesday. Soundtrack for Starz’s ‘Boss’ Announced

Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the Starz original series Boss. The album features selection’s from the show’s score composed by Brian Reitzell (Friday Night Lights, Beginners) who also serves as the music supervisor. Also included are tracks by Robert Plant & The King of Joy, Wilco and Mark Hollis. The soundtrack will be released digitally on December 18, 2012 and physically on January 29, 2013. Boss stars Kelsey Grammer as the Mayor of Chicago who is diagnosed with a degenerative mental condition that only he and his doctor know about. Christopher Gordon has been tapped to score the upcoming drama Two Mothers. The film is directed by Anne Fontaine and stars Naomi Watts and Robin Wright as two lifelong pals whose deep friendship is tested when they engage in affairs with each other’s sons. Ben Mendelsohn, Xavier Samuel, James Frecheville, Gary Sweet and Sophie Lowe are also starring. The movie is based on the novel by Doris Lessing (Memoirs of a Survivor) and was adapted for the screen by Christopher Hampton (Dangerous Liaisons, Atonement). Philippe Carcassonne (Coco Before Chanel) , Dominique Besnehard and Andrew Mason (Dark City, Tomorrow When the War Began) are producing the Cine@, MonVoisin and Hopscotch Features production. Relativity Music Group will release a soundtrack album for Roger Michell’s period comedy drama Hyde Park on Hudson. The album features the film’s score composed by Jeremy Sams (Enduring Love, The Mother). The soundtrack will be released digitally on December 11, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Deadline is reporting that Gustavo Santaolalla and Paul Williams are writing songs for Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming CG-animated film The Day of the Dead.  The movie is directed and co-written by Jorge R. Gutierrez (El Tigre) and is being described as a “Romeo and Juliet-style love story set against a the Mexican holiday  “Day of the Dead””. Del Toro is producing the Reel FX production with Aaron Berger and Carina Schulze. The project marks del Toro’s first Mexican film production in almost two decades. The Day of the Dead is targeting a release in the fall of 2014.  Santaolalla who received two Academy Awards for his work on Brokeback Mountain and Babel is also composing the music for a stage version of Guillermo del Toro’s 2006 hit film Pan’s Labyrinth about a young stepdaughter of a sadistic army officer who finds refuge and terror in a fantasy world in 1944 Fascist Spain. ‘Tron: Uprising’ Soundtrack Announced

Walt Disney Records will release a soundtrack album for the animated series Tron: Uprising. The album features selections from the show’s original score composed by Joseph Trapanese (The Raid) who previously collaborated with Daft Punk on their score for Tron: Legacy. The soundtrack will be released digitally on January 8, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Tron: Uprising is created by Steven Lisberger & Bonnie MacBird and features the voice talent of Elijah Wood, Bruce Boxleitner, Lance Henriksen, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Mandy Moore, Paul Reubens, Nate Corddry and Reginald VelJohnson. The show is set between the feature versions of Tron and Tron: Legacy. The first season of 18 episodes premiered on Disney XD this past summer. Read the rest of this entry »
