the-giverMarco Beltrami has been hired to score the upcoming sci-fi drama The Giver. The film is directed by Phillip Noyce and stars Brenton Thwaites, Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Alexander Skarsgard, Taylor Swift, Cameron Monaghan, Odeya Rush and Katie Holmes. The movie is based on the YA novel by Lois Lowry and follows a young boy who is selected for his life service as the Receiver of Memories and works with an old man who teaches him to use his unique gifts of the senses. Michael Mitnick has written the most recent version of the screenplay. Nikki Silver is producing the project with Neil Koenigsberg (A Walk on the Moon) and Bridges. The project marks Beltrami’s first collaboration with Noyce. The director has previously worked together with such composers as James Horner (Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger), James Newton Howard (Salt), Howard Shore (Sliver) and Craig Armstrong (The Bone Collector). liberatorDeutsche Grammaphon will release the official soundtrack album for the historical drama The Liberator (Libertador). The album features the film’s original music composed by Los Angeles Philharmonic director Gustavo Dudamel and performed by the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra. The project marks the first scoring assignment of Dudamel who consulted with John Williams in preparations for his music. The soundtrack will be released on July 29, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Liberator is directed by Alberto Arvelo and stars Edgar Ramirez, Maria Valverde, Danny Huston, Imanol Arias and Gary Lewis. The film tells the story of Simon Bolívar, the legendary Venezuelan military and political leader who helped secure independence from the Spanish empire. imageNathan Barr revealed at last night’s Season 7 premiere of True Blood in Hollywood that he is working on a musical adaptatation of the HBO drama. The composer who has been scoring the show since the pilot episode in 2008 pitched the project to creator and executive producer Alan Ball. The musical will revolve around the series’s lead character of Sookie Stackhouse, portrayed in the show by Anna Paquin. Stephen Moyer who plays Bill Compton already helped Barr to put together some samples to present to HBO and Ball. The composer who is also scoring FX’s The Americans and Netflix’s Hemlock Grove hopes to present a workshop version of the musical in 2015. Read the rest of this entry »

cordobaThe complete composer guest line-up for this year’s International Film Music Festival in Cordoba has been announced. The 10th anniversary celebration of the event will be attended by the most recent Academy Award-winning composer Steven Price (Gravity), Golden Globe nominees Rolfe Kent (SidewaysUp in the AirElection) and Abel Korzeniowski (A Single ManW.E.Penny Dreadful), Emmy Award nominee Christopher Lennertz (RevolutionHorrible BossesRide Along) and Craig Safan (The Last Starfighter). The film is directed by Academy Award-nominated producer Ross Katz (Lost in TranslationIn the Bedroom) and stars Nick Kroll, Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale, Joel McHale, Josh Charles and Caitlin Fitzgerald. The movie follows a young, narcissistic entrepreneur who leaves Manhattan to move in with his estranged, pregnant sister and his brother-in-law and his 3-year-old nephew, only to end up becoming their nanny. Jeff Cox (Blades of Glory) and Liz Flahive (Nurse Jackie) have written the screenplay played based on a story by Kroll, Cox and Flahive. Kroll is also producing the project with Sam Slater & Paul Bernon (Drinking Buddies), Marcus Cox & Karrie Cox and Jared Goldman. The album features the film’s original music composed by Marco Beltrami (World War ZThe WolverineScream3:10 to Yuma). inon-zurInon Zur has been tapped to score the upcoming thriller Reclaim. The film is directed by Alan White (BrokenErskineville Kings) and stars John Cusack, Ryan Phillippe, Rachelle Lefevre, Jacki Weaver and Luis Guzman. The movie is inspired by true events and follows an American couple who head to Puerto Rico to finalize the adoption of their new daughter, a Haitian orphan, who mysteriously vanishes from their hotel room. Luke Davies has written the screenplay based on an earlier version by Carmine Gaeta. Fredrik Malmberg and Silvio Muraglia are producing the Paradox Entertainment production with Brian and Josh Etting (Relative Strangers). The album features exclusive new songs from The Shins, Bon Iver and Cat Power + Coldplay. Also featured are tracks by Baldy Drawn Boy, Paul Simon, Gary Jules, Allie Moss & more. The soundtrack will be released digitally and physically on July 15, 2014. A special 12″ double gatefold, 180 gram vinyl version will be released on August 5. The film is directed by Morten Tyldum (Headhunters) and stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Keira Knightley, Mark Strong, Matthew Goode and Charles Dance.  The movie follows a British mathematician and cryptographer who helped crack the German enigma code during the final years of World War II and was later prosecuted by the British government in the early 1950s for being a homosexual. Graham Moore has written the script based on the book Alan Turing: The Enigma. tammyWaterTower Music will release a soundtrack album for the comedy Tammy. The album features the film’s original music composed by Michael Andrews (BridesmaidsNeighbors, Bad TeacherDonnie Darko). Also included are two songs by Possum Creek. The soundtrack will be released on July 1, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips are available after the jump. Tammy is directed by Ben Falcone and stars Melissa McCarthy, Susan Sarandon, Allison Janney, Gary Cole, Mark Duplass, Dan Aykroyd, Kathy Bates, Toni Collette and Nat Faxon. The movie follows a woman who after losing her job and learning that her husband has been unfaithful, hits the road with her profane, hard-drinking grandmother.
