Howe Records will release three new soundtrack albums for a number of films directed by David Cronenberg featuring music written by the director’s regular composer Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Silence of the Lambs). The first release features the complete and remastered score for the 1996 psychological thriller Crash starring James Spader, Deborah Kara Unger, Elias Koteas, Holly Hunter and Rosanna Arquette. The soundtrack will be released on October 14, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The second new Collector’s Edition features the complete score for the 1988 drama Dead Ringers starring Jeremy Irons and Geneviève Bujold. Click here to pre-order the CD. Premiering tonight in the U.S. on PBS as part of Masterpiece Mystery is the British medical drama Breathless co-created and written by Paul Unwin (Shameless) and starring Jack Davenport, Iain Glen, Zoe Boyle Catherine Steadman, Iain Glen, Natasha Little, Oliver Chris, Joanna Page and Shaun Dingwall. The show’s original music is composed by Academy Award winner Anne Dudley (The Full Monty, American History X, Black Box). Breathless follows a group of doctors and nurses in a hospital in 1960s London. The series premiered last fall in the UK on ITV and will air in the US Sunday nights on PBS. John Swihart to Score ABC’s ‘Cristela’

John Swihart has been hired to score the upcoming ABC comedy Cristela. The show is created by Kevin Hench (Last Man Standing) and stand-up comedienne Cristela Alonzo who also stars in the series alongside Carlos Ponce, Terri Hoyos, Andrew Leeds, Sam McMurray. The comedy follows an American Latina law student who hopes to land a prestigious law firm internship as her mother hectors her about getting a real job, her brother-in-law encourages her to move out and her sister runs low on patience. Hench and Alonzo are also executive producing the 20th Century Fox TV and 21 Laps-Adelstein production with Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum, Real Steel, Date Night), Becky Clements (Last Man Standing) and Marty Adelstein (Hanna, Prison Break). Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the teen drama If I Stay directed by R.J. Cutler and starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Mireille Enos, Jamie Blackley, Joshua Leonard, Liana Liberato, Aisha Hinds and Stacy Keach. The film’s original score is composed by Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me, Beverly Hills Chihahua). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film by artists including Beck, The Orwells, Sonic Youth, Odessa, Willamette Stone, Ben Howard, Lucius, Tom Odell & more. Ludwig Göransson and Questlove have been tapped to score the upcoming comedy Top Five. The film is written and directed by Chris Rock who also stars in the movie alongside Rosario Dawson, J.B. Smoove, Gabrielle Union, Tracy Morgan, Cedric the Entertainer, Kevin Hart, Jerry Seinfeld, Adam Sandler, Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd, Jay Pharoah, Anders Holm and Michael Che. The movie tells the story of a New York City comedian-turned-film star whose unexpected encounter with a journalist forces him to confront both the career that made him famous and the life he left behind. ‘Dolphin Tale 2’ Soundtrack Details

Lakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack album for the family drama Dolphin Tale 2. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Rachel Portman (Emma, The Cider House Rules, Chocolat, The Manchurian Candidate). The soundtrack will be released digitally on September 9, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check back on this page for audio clips and the cover art. Craig Armstrong to Score Paul McGuigan’s ‘Frankenstein’

Director Paul McGuigan announced on Twitter that Craig Armstrong will be composing the music for the upcoming horror thriller Frankenstein. The film based on a number of contemporary adaptations of Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel of the same title stars Daniel Radcliffe as hunchback Igor and James McAvoy as Victor Frankenstein. Jessica Brown Findlay, Andrew Scott and Mark Gatiss are co-starring. No plot details have been announced yet. Max Landis (Chronicle, American Ultra) has written the screenplay and John Davis (Predator, I, Robot, Waterworld, The Blacklist) is producing the project for Davis Entertainment. Josh Kramon is scoring the upcoming ABC drama Forever. The show is created by Matthew Miller (Chuck, Human Target) and stars Ioan Gruffudd, Alana De La Garza, Lorraine Toussaint, Donnie Keshawarz, Joel David Moore and Judd Hirsch. The series follows New York City’s star medical examiner who studies the dead to solve criminal cases and the mystery of his own inexplicable immortality. Miller is also executive producing the Warner Bros. Television production with Jennifer Gwartz (Veronica Mars, Cupid) and Dan Lin (The Lego Movie, Sherlock Holmes). Howard Shore to Receive Maestro Award at Billboard/THR Film & TV Music Conference

Howard Shore has been chosen to receive the Maestro Award at this year’s Billboard/Hollywood Reporter Film and TV Music Conference, which is being held November 5 and 6 at Universal Studios in Hollywood. The Academy Award-, Golden Globe- and Grammy-winning composer is best known for his music for Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy. He also scored such films as The Silence of the Lambs, The Aviator, Hugo, Mrs. Doubtfire, Big, Philadelphia, The Departed and Ed Wood. He is currently composing the music for the final installment in The Hobbit series The Battle of Five Armies. He recently also scored Jon Stewart’s directorial debut Rosewater, which will be released this fall and David Cronenberg’s Maps to the Stars, which premiered in May at the Cannes Film Festival. Bibio is composing the original music for the upcoming drama Men, Women & Children. The film is directed by Jason Reitman and stars Rosemarie DeWitt, Adam Sandler, Kaitlyn Dever, Ansel Elgort, Jennifer Garner, Judy Greer, Elena Kampouris, Emma Thompson, J.K. Simmons and Dean Norris. The movie follows a group of teenagers and their parents as they attempt to navigate the many ways the internet has changed their relationships, their communication, their self-image, and their love lives. Reitman has co-written the screenplay with Erin Cressida Wilson (Secretary, Chloe) based on a novel by Chad Kultgen. He is also producing the project with Helen Estabrook (Whiplash, Labor Day).
