stephen-traskComposer Stephen Trask is teaming up with writer Chris D’Arienzo (Rock of Ages) to create a musical based on Martin Scorsese’s 1982 feature The King of Comedy starring Robert De Niro, Jerry Lewis, Tony Randall, Diahnne Abbott and Sandra Bernhard about an aspiring comedian who kidnaps a talk show host in the hopes of forcing his way onto television. New Regency is backing the project, which is being eyed to premiere on Broadway. Trask is best known for composing the music for the stage musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch and its film version. mistress-americaMilan Records will release a soundtrack album for Noah Baumbach’s indie comedy Mistress America. The album features the film’s original music composed by Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips who previously scored the director’s The Squid and the Whale. Also included are songs by Paul McCartney, Suicide, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark and Hot Chocolate. The soundtrack will be released on August 14, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Mistress America  is co-written by Baumbach & Greta Gerwig who also stars in the film as Lola Kirke, a lonely college freshman in New York who is rescued from her solitude by her soon-to-be stepsister, an adventurous gal about town who entangles her in alluringly mad schemes. ‘Low Down’ Soundtrack Details

The album features compositions by the film’s subject, jazz pianist Joe Albany, as well as tracks by Coleman Hawkins, Max Roach and Thelonious Monk. Also included are selections from the film’s original score composed by Ohad Talmor. The soundtrack will be released digitally on July 28, 2015 and physically on August 7. pocahontasThe full details of the Walt Disney Records Legacy Collection release for Disney Animation’s 1995 feature Pocahontas have been revealed. The album features the film’s original songs and score, including previously unreleased tracks and demos. Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Enchanted, The Little Mermaid) has composed the score and songs and Stephen Schwartz (The Prince of Egypt) provided the songs’ lyrics. Menken’s score and the song Listen to the Wind were honored with Academy Award nominations in 1996. chris-baconChris Bacon is currently recording his score for Rob Reiner’s upcoming drama Being Charlie. The movie follows an 18-year-old who breaks out of a youth drug treatment clinic, but when he returns home to Los Angeles, he’s given an intervention by his parents and forced to go to an adult rehab. The film stars Nick Robinson, Morgan Saylor, Common, Devon Bostick, Susan Misner, Ricardo Chavira and Cary Elwes. Reiner is also producing the project with Simon Goldberg through their Castle Rock Entertainment company, alongside Johnson Chan and Stephanie Rennie. van-alexanderVariety is reporting that Van Alexander died this afternoon at age 100 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He composed scores for several 1960s sitcoms including BewtichedI Dream of JeannieHazel, The Donna Reed Show and Dennis the Menace. Throughout his career, Alexander earned three Emmy Award nominations for his music direction for The Wacky World of Jonathan Winters and The Golddiggers, as well as for his music for 1970s Gene Kelly’s Wonderful World of Girls. His film scoring credits include The Atomic Kid, Baby Face Nelson, Andy Hardy Comes Home, 13 Frightened Girls, Strait-Jacket and Girls Town. Read the rest of this entry »
