Carter Burwell has been named Film Composer of the Year 2016 at the 16th World Soundtrack Awards, tonight’s closing event of the 43rd Ghent Film Festival. The composer’s output over the last year includes such titles as Anomalisa, Hail Caesar!, Legend, The Family Fang and The Finest Hours. Burwell also received the Public Choice Award for his Academy Award-nominated score for Todd Haynes’ Carol and also won an award in the Best Original Song category for the Tom Noonan-performed track None of Them Are You from the animated feature Anomalisa, which he co-wrote with Charlie Kaufman. Nathan Larson has composed the music for the upcoming sci-fi thriller Rapture. The film is directed by Steven Shainberg (Secretary, Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Farbus) and stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Chiklis, Peter Stormare, Lesley Manville, Kerry Bishé and Ari Millen. The movie follows a single mother who tries to break free from a mysterious organization that has abducted her. Intrada Records has announced the world premiere release of the original score for Walt Disney Pictures’ 2003 feature The Haunted Mansion directed by Rob Minkoff and starring Eddie Murphy, Terence Stamp, Wallace Shawn, Marsha Thomason and Jennifer Tilly. The album features the film’s music composed by Mark Mancina (Tarzan, Twister, Speed, Brother Bear, Con Air, Bad Boys, Moana). The 2-CD set includes the complete score, as well as unused alternates and additional cues. Only one track from the composer’s score has previously been released and was featured on the original 2003 soundtrack album.
