Justin Hurwitz Wins BAFTA Award for ‘La La Land’

baftaJustin Hurwitz has received his first BAFTA Award for his score for Damien Chazelle’s La La Land in the Original Music category today at the ceremony at the Orange British Academy Film Awards ceremony at the Royal Opera House in London. The composer accepted his award in person at the event. Check out his acceptance speech after the jump. He was nominated alongside Johann Johannsson (Arrival), Mica Levi (Jackie), Dustin O’Halloran & Hauschka (Lion) and Abel Korzeniowski (Nocturnal Animals). The composer previously received two Golden Globes for both his score and the song City of Stars from the movie and has received three Academy Award nominations for his work on the film. The album features the film’s original music composed by Cyrille Aufort (Splice, A Royal Affair, Ombline). The soundtrack will be released digitally on February 15, 2017 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. March of the Penguins 2: The Call is directed by Luc Jacquet (Antarctica: Ice & Sky) who also helmed 2005’s original movie and follows a young penguin who is about to embark on his first journey, driven by the mysterious instinctual call that pushes every penguin when winter comes to leave for an unknown destination. ‘Tanna’ Soundtrack Relased

tannaLightyear Entertainment has released a soundtrack album for the Australian drama Tanna. The album features the film’s original music composed by Antony Partos (Animal KingdomThe Rover99 Homes). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. Tanna is directed by Martin Butler & Bentley Dean and stars Marie Wawa, Mungau Dain, Marceline Rofit and Chief Charlie Kahla. The movie, which is one of the five nominees in the Foreign Language Film category at this year’s Academy Awards, tells the story of two young lovers who dared to defy the Vanuatu islanders tradition of arranged marriage and changed the island’s culture as a result. Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

lego-batman-movieExpected to top the weekend box office is the animated feature The LEGO Batman Movie directed by Chris McKay and featuring the voices of Will Arnett, Zach Galifianakis, Michael Cera, Rosario Dawson, Jenny Slate and Ralph Fiennes. The film’s original music is composed by Lorne Balfe (Terminator GenisysHomePenguins of Madagascar13 Hours). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the movie by DNCE, Cutting Crew, Patrick Stump, Alesso feat. john-wickAlso opening wide is the action sequel John Wick: Chapter 2 directed by Chad Stahelski and starring Keanu Reeves, Common, Riccardo Scamarcio, Laurence Fishburne, Ruby Rose, Bridget Moynahan, Lance Roddick, Franco Nero, John Leguizamo and Ian McShane. Tyler Bates (Guardians of the Galaxy300) and Joel J. Richard (Quantico) have composed the film’s original music. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack featuring the composers’ score, as well as tracks by Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains, Ciscandra Nostalghia and Le Castle Vania. detroitersComedy Central has released the theme song for the cable networks’s new original series Detroiters. The song written/produced by Distinct Life and performed by 6aamm and is now available to download as a digital single on AmazonDetroiters is created by Sam Richardson, Tim Robinson, Zach Kanin & Joe Kelly and stars Richardson and Robinson, alongside guest stars including Pat Vern Harris, Lailani Ledesma, Mort Crim, Shawntay Dalon, Andre Belue, Christopher Powell and Jason Sudeikis who also serves as an executive producer. Auli’i Cravalho will join Miranda to perform his Oscar-nominated song How Far I’ll Go written for Moana. Sting will perform The Empty Chair from Jim: The James Foley Story, the Oscar nominated song he co-wrote with three-time Oscar nominee J. Ralph. tangledWalt Disney Records has released the original song Wind in My Hair from the Disney Channel original movie Tangled Before Ever After. The track is performed by Mandy Moore and written by Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Enchanted) and lyricist Glenn Slater (Galavant, Home on the Range) who also wrote the songs for Disney’s Tangled. The song is now available to download as a digital single on Amazon. Tangled Before Ever After tells the story set the feature film Tangled and the short Tangled Ever After and precedes the new series Tangled: The Series. ‘Rings’ Soundtrack Released

The album features the film’s original music composed by Matthew Margeson (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar ChildrenKingsman: The Secret ServiceEddie the EagleKick-Ass 2). Hans Zimmer who scored Gore Verbinski’s original The Ring movie serves as the executive music producer. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. Rings is directed by F. Javier Gutierrez and stars Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe, Johnny Galecki, Aimee Teegarden, Bonnie Morgan and Vincent D’Onofrio.
