Academy Announces New Awards Rules

oscarsThe Academy of Motion Pictures announced a couple of new rules and campaign regulations for next year’s 90th Academy Awards, which were approved at their most recent Board meeting on Tuesday, March 28, including one in the music categories. The new rules state that, “in the Music (Original Score) category, in the case of a score that has three or more equally contributing composers, the composers may be considered as a group. ‘Red’ Soundtrack Announced

red-lakeshoreLakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack album for the short Red. The album features the film’s original music composed by Tom Schutzinger (Somersault, Jewboy, Yolk, Lucky Country, Caught Inside). The soundtrack is now available on Bandcamp and will be released through all major digital retailers on April 14. Visit Amazon to pre-order the album. The track is performed by the rock band American Authors and will be released as a digital single tomorrow, April 7 and will be available to download on AmazonBorn in China is directed by Lu Chuan and narrated by John Krasinski. The album features the film’s original music composed by Rael Jones (Suite FrancaiseKids in LoveHarlots). The soundtrack will be released on June 2, 2017 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. My Cousin Rachel is directed by Roger Michell (Notting Hill, Changing Lanes) and stars Rachel Weisz, Sam Claflin, Holliday Grainger and Iain Glen. The movie is based on the 1951 novel by Daphne Du Maurier and tells the story of a young Englishman who plots revenge against his mysterious, beautiful cousin, believing that she murdered his guardian. The show is created by Davey Holmes (Shameless) inspired by Elmore Leonard’s 1990 bestselling thriller comedy novel and stars Chris O’Dowd, Ray Romano, Sean Bridgers, Megan Stevenson, Goya Robles, Lucy Walters, Sarah Stiles, Antwone Tanner and Carolyn Dodd. julian-wassJulian Wass has been tapped to score the upcoming HBO original series Room 104. The show is created by Mark & Jay Duplass (CyrusJeff Who Lives at Home). The anthology series tells a different story of a group of assorted characters who pass through the room of an average American hotel in each episode. The Duplass brothers are also executive producing the comedy with Xan Aranda (Blue Jay). bear-mccrearyBear McCreary revealed in a recent interview with Film Music Magazine that he is scoring the upcoming horror thriller Half to Death. The film is directed by Christopher Landon (Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, screenwriter of Disturbia) and stars Jessica Rothe, Ruby Modine, Charles Aitken and Rachel Matthews. long-strange-tripRhino Records will release a soundtrack album for Amazon Studios’ documentary Long Strange Trip. The album features a collection of songs by the film’s subject, the rock band Grateful Dead as featured in the movie. The soundtrack will be released on May 26, 2017 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Long Strange Trip is directed by Amir Bar-Lev (Trouble the Water, Happy Valley, The Tillman Story) and chronicles the rise of the Grateful Dead from their Bay Area roots to stadiums around the world. The documentary executive produced by Martin Scorsese premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will be released in select theaters on May 26 before premiering on Amazon Prime on June 2. alexandre-desplatAlexandre Desplat is currently scoring Roman Polanski’s upcoming French-language thriller Based on a True Story. The film starring Emmanuelle Seigner, Eva Green and Vincent Perez follows a Parisian author with writer’s block who discovers a mysterious woman at a book signing. Olivier Assayas (Personal ShopperClouds of Sils Maria) and Polanski wrote the screenplay based on Delphine de Vigan’s novel of the same title. Wassim Beji (Yves Saint LaurentA Perfect Man) is producing the project for WY Productions.
