Beth Krakower (1971 – 2018)

Publicist Beth Krakower who specialized in promoting film/TV composers and soundtrack albums/cast recordings has passed away yesterday, September 5, at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica after a nearly two year battle with breast cancer. She was 46. Among her clients were composers Cliff Martinez (Drive, Traffic), Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead, 10 Cloverfield Lane), Rolfe Kent (Sideways, Wedding Crashers), Jeff Beal (House of Cards, Pollock), Lalo Schifrin (Mission: Impossible, Rush Hour), Blake Neely (Arrow, The Flash) and Michael Abels (Get Out).  Read the rest of this entry »

Legacy Recordings will release a soundtrack album for the documentary Bad Reputation. The album features the classic songs from the movie performed by Joan Jett and her bands The Blackhearts and The Runaways, as well as Bikini Kill’s Rebel Girl (produced by Jett), Fea’s song Feminazi and Jett’s, Miley Cyrus’ & Laura Jane Grace’s cover of The Replacement’s Androgynous. The soundtrack will be released on September 28, 2018 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Bad Reputation is directed by Kevin Kerslake and follows Jett from her early years as the founder and backbone of the all-female band the Runaways during the 1970s punk scene. Singer/songwriter Jamie Cullum has recorded a new version of the hit song The Man by The Killers. The track is featured during the credits of the heist thriller King of Thieves directed by James Marsh and starring Michael Caine, Tom Courtenay, Ray Winstone, Jim Broadbent, Charlie Cox, Paul Whitehouse, Michael Gambon and Francesca Annis. Marvel Music and Hollywood Records will release a new soundtrack album for the Netflix original series Iron Fist. The album features selections of the original music from the show’s second season composed by Robert Lydecker (xXx: Return of Xander Cage, Designated Survivor, Sleepy HollowLethal Weapon). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, September 7 and will be available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio clips. The labels have previously released a soundtrack featuring Trevor Morris’ score from the series’ first season. Air-Edel Records has announced a soundtrack album for the British drama The Escape. The album features the film’s original music composed by Anthony John and Alexandra Harwood (The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, September 7 and will be available to download on Amazon. The Escape is directed by Dominic Savage and stars Gemma Arterton, Dominic Cooper, Jalil Lespert, Frances Barber and Marthe Keller. The movie centers on a housewife and mother suffocating under the weight of her domestic burdens who makes the extraordinary decision to abandon her family in order to find herself. The Newton Brothers (Oculus, Ouija: Origin of Evil) have composed the music for the first episode of the upcoming Hulu horror anthology series Into the Dark. The episode, entitled The Body, is directed by Paul Davis and stars Tom Bateman, Rebecca Rittenhouse, Aurora Perrineau, David Hull and Ray Santiago. The Body is set in the selfie culture of Los Angeles on Halloween night and follows a sophisticated, overconfident hitman who always carries out his work in style and decides to take things even further one day by transporting his latest victim in plain sight. Michael Wandmacher (Underworld: Blood Wars, Piranha 3D) is scoring the show’s second episode, Flesh & Blood, directed by Patrick Lussier (Dracula 2000) and starring Dermot Mulroney, Diana Silvers and Tembi Locke. The Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voted Tuesday night (September 4) to present an Honorary Award to composer Lalo Schifrin. He will be honored at the Academy’s 10th Annual Governors Awards on Sunday, November 18, at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland Center. Born and raised in Argentina, Schifrin studied classical music and jazz in France before beginning to compose for film in Buenos Aires in the mid-1950s. He has written scores for more than 100 films, including The Cincinnati Kid,  Dirty Harry, Enter the Dragon and Rush Hour. Read the rest of this entry »

Thomas Newman is reteaming with director John Lee Hancock on the upcoming Netflix original movie The Highwaymen. The crime drama starring Kevin Costner, Woody Harrelson, Kathy Bates, John Carroll Lynch, Kim Dickens, Thomas Mann and William Sadler is based on the true events of Texas Ranger Frank Hamer and ex-partner Maney Gault, who are drawn out of retirement in a last-ditch effort to hunt down Bonnie and Clyde. Hollywood Records will release the official soundtrack album for the biographical drama Bohemian Rhapsody. The album features the songs from the film performed by Queen, including classics tracks such as We Will Rock You, Somebody to Love, We Are the Champions, Another One Bites the Dust, Under Pressure (with David Bowie), The Show Must Go On & more. The soundtrack will be released on October 19, 2018 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Bohemian Rhapsody is directed by Bryan Singer and stars Rami Malek, Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, Joseph Mazzello, Aiden Gillen, Tom Hollander and Mike Myers. The movie traces the meteoric rise of Queen through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound and focuses on lead singer Freddie Mercury who defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. Thom Yorke has announced a soundtrack album for Luca Guadagnino’s Suspiria remake. The album features the film’s original music composed by the Radiohead member who made his feature film scoring debut on the project. The soundtrack will be released on October 26, 2018 by XL Recordings and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Listen to a track from the album after the jump. Suspiria is based on Dario Argento’s 70s classic and stars Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton, Mia Goth, Lutz Ebersdorf and Chloe Grace Moretz. The movie just premiered at the Venice Film Festival this past weekend and will be released in select U.S. theaters on October 26 by Amazon Studios before expanding nationwide the following week.
