Joseph Stephens is set to score the upcoming HBO original series The Righteous Gemstones. The show is created by Danny McBride who also stars in the series, alongside John Goodman, Edi Patterson, Adam Devine, Cassidy Freeman, Tony Cavalero, Tim Baltz and GregAlan Williams. The comedy revolves around a world-famous televangelist family with a long tradition of deviance, greed and charitable work – all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. The only movie opening nationwide this week is the action thriller Miss Bala directed by Catherine Hardwicke and starring Gina Rodriguez, Ismael Cruz Córdova and Anthony Mackie. The film’s original music is composed by Alex Heffes (The Last King of Scotland, Roots, Touching the Void, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score (click here for the album details). Also available now is an original song performed by Leslie Grace from the movie (click here for more information).
Opening in limited release this week is the survival drama Arctic co-written and directed by Joe Penna and starring Mads Mikkelsen. Joseph Trapanese (Oblivion, Straight Outta Compton, The Greatest Showman, Allegiant, Robin Hood) has composed the film’s original music. The Academy has announced today that Gillian Welch & David Rawlings will perform the song When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings from the Coen Brothers’ The Ballad of Buster Scruggs at this year’s Academy Awards ceremony on February 24. Welch & Rawlings also wrote the song, which is performed in the movie by Willie Watson & Tim Blake Nelson. It was also announced today that Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper will perform the song Shallow from A Star Is Born. As announced yesterday, Jennifer Hudson will perform the nominated song I’ll Fight from RBG and yet-to-be announced performer will sing Where Lost Things Go from Mary Poppins Returns. RTI has released a soundtrack album for the Italian historical epic Romulus & Remus: The First King (Il primo re). The album features the film’s original music composed by Andrea Farri (Italian Race, What a Beautiful Surprise). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also check out the track list and listen to audio samples. Romulus & Remus: The First King is directed by Matteo Rovere and stars Alessandro Borghi, Alessio Lapice, Tania Garribba and Fabrizio Rongione. The full details of the new soundtrack album for the Netflix original series House of Cards have been revealed. The album features selections of the original music from the show’s sixth and final season composed by Jeff Beal (Monk, Rome, Pollock, Appaloosa, Pollock) who received two Emmy Awards and three additional Emmy Award nominations for his work on the political drama. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, February 1 by Varese Sarabande and will be available to download on Amazon. Lizzo has recorded a new version of the Bee Gees classic Stayin’ Alive for the Blumhouse slasher thriller sequel Happy Death Day 2U. The song will be released as a digital single tomorrow, February 1 by Back Lot Music and will be available to download here. Happy Death Day 2U is directed by Christopher Landon, produced by Jason Blum and stars Jessica Rothe as Tree Gelbman who discovers that dying over and over was surprisingly easier than the dangers that lie ahead.
