Music Highlights from 96th Academy Awards

The 96th Academy Awards ceremony was held last night. All five nominees in the Original Song category were performed live. Check out the performances of the Oscar-winning What Was I Made For from Barbie by Billie Eilish & Finneas O’Connell, as well as the Oscar-nominated I’m Just Ken from Barbie by Ryan Gosling, The Fire Inside from Flamin’ Hot by Becky G, It Never Went Away from American Symphony by Jon Batiste and Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People) from Killers of the Flower Moon by Scott George and the Osage Singers after the jump. Decca Records has released the cover version of the hit song Time to Say Goodbye (Con te partirò) from the In Memoriam segment of last night’s 96th Academy Awards ceremony. The new version of the song (originally written by Francesco Sartori & Lucio Quarantotto) is produced and arranged by Academy Award winner Hans Zimmer (The Lion King, Dune, Inception, Gladiator, The Dark Knight) and performed by Andrea Bocelli with Matteo Bocelli. Ludwig Göransson was honored with his second Academy Award for his score for Christopher Nolan’s drama Oppenheimer at tonight’s 96th Oscar ceremony. He previously won his first Oscar for his music from Marvel’s Black Panther in 2019 and was also nominated last year for the song Lift Me Up from its sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Premiering in the U.S. this Tuesday, March 12 is the British TV series Boat Story created by Harry & Jack Williams and starring Daisy Haggard, Paterson Joseph, Craig Fairbrass, Joanna Scanlan, Ethan Lawrence, Jonas Armstrong, Michele Austin and Tcheky Karyo. The show’s original music is composed by Dominik Scherrer (The MissingThe Tourist, Primeval, The WidowRipper Street, Requiem, BaptisteNo Escape). Dubois Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this year. Premiering on Wednesday, March 13, is the Paramount+ original movie Little Wing directed by Dean Israelite and starring Brian Cox, Kelly Reilly, Che Tafari and Brooklynn Prince. Hippocampus has released a soundtrack album for the French Prime Video original series Nudes. The album features selections of the show’s original music composed by Rob (aka Robin Coudert) (Maniac, RevengeGretel & Hansel, Horns, Oxygen, Troy: Fall of a City), Nousdeuxtheband (Madame Claude, Stella in Love) & Paul Sabin (Stalk). The soundtrack is now available to stream/download here, where you can also check out the track list. Nudes is based on the Norwegian series of the same title created by Nina M. Barbosa Blad, Erika Calmeyer & Liv Joelle Barbosa Blad and stars Baptiste Masseline, Léonie Dahan-Lamort and Nelligan. The drama follows three teens who are in the midst of a life crisis and are forced to to regain control of their own lives when compromising photos spread on social media. The film marks the directorial debut of Kyle Mooney (Saturday Night Live, Brigsby Bear) and stars Rachel Zegler, Jaeden Martell, Julian Dennison, Daniel Zolghadri, Lachlan Watson, Mason Gooding and The Kid Laroi. The movie takes place on the last night of 1999 and follows two high school juniors as they crash a New Years Eve party, only to find themselves fighting for their lives. The film marks the directorial debut of actress/writer Pamela Adlon (Better Things) and stars Ilana Glazer, Michelle Buteau, John Carroll Lynch and Hasan Minhaj. The movie centers on a woman who – after becoming pregnant from a one-night stand – leans on her married best friend and mother of two to guide her through gestation and beyond. Michael Penn (Girls, Boogie Nights, Sunshine Cleaning, Masters of Sex, The Last Kiss) has recently scored the upcoming comedy drama I Love You Forever. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Cazzie David & Elisa Kalani and stars Sofia Black-D’Elia, Ray Nicholson, Jon Rudnitsky, Raymond Cham Jr. and David herself. The movie follows a disillusioned 25-year old law student whose love life consists of non-committal hookups who starts to believe true love may actually exist when she meets a handsome and charming journalist who isn’t afraid to show affection. Also opening wide is the supernatural horror movie Imaginary directed by Jeff Wadlow and starring DeWanda Wise, Tom Payne, Pyper Braun, Taegen Burns, Betty Buck and Veronica Falcon. Netflix Music has released a soundtrack album for the streamer’s original film Irish Wish. The album features the movie’s original score composed by Nathan Lanier (Home Before Dark, Jem and the Holograms, High Strung, Justin Bieber’s Believe, Falling for Christmas, Max Steel). The soundtrack is now available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services. Also listen to the composer’s opening title track below. Irish Wish is directed by Janeen Damian and stars Lindsay Lohan, Ed Speleers, Alexander Vlahos, Jane Seymour,  Elizabeth Tan, Ayesha Curry and Jacinta Mulcahy.
