Christophe Beck has recently composed the score for the upcoming romantic drama Endless Love. The film is directed by Shana Feste (Country Strong) and stars Alex Pettyfer, Gabriella Wilde, Robert Patrick, Bruce Greenwood, Rhys Wakefield, Dayo Okeniyi, Emma Rigby and Joely Richardson. The movie follows a privileged girl and a charismatic boy whose instant desire sparks a love affair made only more reckless by parents trying to keep them apart. Feste has co-written the screenplay with Joshua Safran (Gossip Girl, Smash). Scott Stuber (Ted, Safe House) and Pamela Abdy (Identity Thief, Garden State) of Bluegrass Films are producing the project with Josh Schwartz & Stephanie Savage (The O.C., The Carrie Diaries) of Fake Empire.

Toby Chu to Score ‘Kelly & Cal’
Toby Chu is composing the score for the upcoming indie drama Kelly & Cal. The film is directed by Jen McGowan and stars Juliette Lewis, Jonny Weston, Josh Hopkins, Cybill Shepherd and Margaret Colin. The movie centers on the relationship between a suburban-trapped mother and a wheelchair-bound young man who brings out her former self. Amy Lowe Starbin has written the screenplay and Adi Ezroni & Mandy Tagger (A Late Quartet, The English Teacher) are producing the project for Spring Pictures. Kelly & Cal is expected to premiere in 2014.
Theodore Shapiro to Score ‘St. Vincent’
Theodore Shapiro has signed on to score the upcoming coming-of-age comedy drama St. Vincent. The movie is directed by Theodore Melfi and stars Bill Murray, Melissa McCarthy, Naomi Watts, Chris O’Dowd, Terrence Howard and Scott Adsit. The movie follows a cranky war veteran who becomes an unlikely mentor to a 12-year-old boy whose parents have divorced. Melfi has also written the screenplay, which was black listed in 2011 under the title St. Vincent de Van Nuys. Peter Chernin (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Heat) is producing the Chernin Entertainment production with Fred Roos (The Outsiders, The Black Stallion). Don Cheadle and Kay Liberman (House of Lies, Traitor) are executive producing the project for Crescendo Productions.
‘The Monkey King’ to Feature Music by Christopher Young
Christopher Young has composed the music for the upcoming fantasy action adventure The Monkey King. The film is directed by Pou-Soi Cheang (Dog Bite Dog, Accident) and stars Donnie Yen in the title role, alongside, Aaron Kwok, Chow Yun-Fat, Peter Ho, Kelly Chen and Joe Chen. The movie is based on selected chapters of Wu Cheng’en’s novel Journey to the West and tells the story of how the Monkey King rebels against the Jade Emperor of Heaven. Edmond Wong (Ip Man) has adapted the material for the screen and Agan (Don Quixote) is producing the Mandarin Films and Filmko Pictures production. The Monkey King will be released in China, Hong Kong and other Asian territories on January 31, 2014. A release in the U.S. later in 2014 is expected.
Mychael Danna to Score Wally Pfister’s ‘Transcendence’
Mychael Danna has been tapped to score the upcoming sci-fi thriller Transcendence. The film marks the directorial debut of Academy Award-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister (The Dark Knight, Inception) and stars Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany, Rebecca Hall, Kate Mara, Cillian Murphy, Clifton Collins, Jr. and Morgan Freeman. The movie follows a foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. Jack Paglen has written the screenplay. Andrew A. Kosove & Broderick Johnson (The Blind Side, Prisoners, Insomnia) the Alcon Entertainment production with Kate Cohen, Marisa Polvino, Annie Marter, David Valdes (Mud, The Prestige) and Aaron Ryder (The Green Mile, The Book of Eli).
A.R. Rahman to Score ‘The Hundred-Foot Journey’
A.R. Rahman has been hired to score the upcoming drama The Hundred-Foot Journey. The film is directed by Lasse Hallstrom and stars Helen Mirren and Manish Dayal. The movie follows an Indian family who moves to Southern France and opens an Indian restaurant a hundred feet across the street from a Michelin starred French restaurant. Steven Knight (Dirty Pretty Things, Eastern Promises) has written the screenplay based based on the bestselling book by Richard Morais. Steven Spielberg is producing the DreamWorks Studios and Participant Media production with Oprah Winfrey and Juliet Blake. Rahman who is best known for his Academy Award-winning music for Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, as well as as numerous Bollywood movies has previously scored the drama People Like Us for DreamWorks.
Ryan Amon to Reteam with Neill Blomkamp on ‘Chappie’
Ryan Amon has signed on to score the upcoming sci-fi action thriller Chappie. The composer is sharing scoring duties on the project with Chris Clark and Rich Walters who also serves as the music editor on the picture. The film is directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9) and stars Hugh Jackman, Dev Patel and Sigourney Weaver The movie follows a robot named Chappie who is kidnapped by two criminals and becomes the adopted son of a very strange and dysfunctional family. Sharlto Copley will be lending his voice to the title character. Blomkamp has also co-written the screenplay with Terri Tatchell (District 9). Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class, Jumper) is producing the Sony Pictures and Media Rights Capital (MRC) production. Amon made his major film scoring debut this year with Blomkamp’s Elysium starring Matt Damon.
Marc Shaiman Scoring Rob Reiner’s ‘And So It Goes’
Marc Shaiman has recently recorded his score for the upcoming comedy drama And So It Goes. The film is directed by Rob Reiner and stars Michael Douglas, Diane Keaton, Sterling Jerins, Frankie Valli, Scott Shepherd and Frances Sternhagen. The movie follows a self-centered real estate agent whose life is turned upside down when his estranged son suddenly drops off a granddaughter he never knew. Academy Award nominee Mark Andrus (As Good As It Gets, Life as a House) has written the screenplay. Reiner is also producing the Foresight Unlimited and Castle Rock production with Alan Greisman (Fletch, Soapdish) and Mark Damon (Monster, Nine 1/2 Weeks). Shaiman has been Reiner’s regular composer for over two decades.
Mario Grigorov to Score Lifetime’s ‘Flowers in the Attic’
Mario Grigorov has been hired to score the upcoming Lifetime original movie Flowers in the Attic. The film based on V.C. Andrews’ bestselling novel stars Heather Graham, Ellen Burstyn, Kiernan Shipka, Mason Dye and Dylan Bruce. The movie follows four young siblings, two boys and two girls, who, after the tragic death of their father, are subjected to cruel emotional and physical abuse resulting from a dark, long-hidden family secret. Deborah Chow (The High Cost of Living) is directing the thriller from a script by Kayla Alpert (Confessions of a Shopaholic). Merideth Finn (The Rite), Michele Weiss (Dear John) and Charles W. Fries (Screamers) are executive producing the project.
Terence Blanchard Scoring Mike Binder’s ‘Black and White’
Terence Blanchard is currently recording his score for the upcoming drama Black and White. The film is written and directed by Mike Binder and stars Kevin Costner, Octavia Spencer, Jennifer Ehle, Gillian Jacobs, Andre Holland, Bill Burr, Mpho Koaho and Jillian Estell. The movie follows a grieving widower who is fighting for custody of his bi-racial granddaughter with the girl’s paternal grandmother and his drug addict son-in-law, who he blames for his own daughter’s death. Binder is also producing the project through his Sunlight Productions company, alongside Costner for Treehouse Film and Todd Lewis.
