edge-of-tomorrowChristophe Beck has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming sci-fi action thriller Edge of Tomorrow. The movie is directed by Doug Liman and stars Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, Charlotte Riley, Kick Gurry, Dragomir Mrsic, Jonas Armstrong and Franz Drameh. The film is based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka novel All You Need Is Kill and is set in the near future when an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault and follows an officer who finds himself reliving his last day over and over after being killed. Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher, The Usual Suspects) has written the screenplay with Jez Butterworth & John-Henry Butterworth (Fair Game).  Erwin Stoff (Constantine), Tom Lassally (Stay), Jason Hoffs, Gregory Jacobs (Magic Mike) and Jeffrey Silver (TRON: Legacy) are producing the project. Beck has taken over for composer Ramin Djawadi who was previously attached to score the film as reported last year. Liman’s previous four features, including The Bourne Identity and Mr. & Mrs. Smith were scored by John Powell.  Edge of Tomorrow is set to be released on June 6, 2014 by Warner Bros. Pictures. WaterTower Music will release the soundtrack album. For updates on the film, visit the official movie website.

Beck’s other upcoming projects include Muppets Most Wanted and the romance Endless Love. He also scored Disney’s Frozen, which is currently playing in theaters. The soundtrack for the animated film just moved to the No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200.

Beck is a competent composer for sure; He can tackle any musical genre that is required of him. Maybe his sensibilities are a perfect match for a film like this.
