Alexandre Desplat confirmed in a recent interview with Arturia (embedded after the jump) that he is reuniting with Wes Anderson on the upcoming stop-motion animated feature Isle of Dogs. The movie is written and directed by Anderson (The Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore) and features the voices of F. Murray Abraham, Bob Balaban, Bud Cort, Bryan Cranston, Greta Gerwig, Jeff Goldblum, Akira Ito, Scarlett Johansson, Harvey Keitel, Bill Murray, Kunichi Nomura, Edward Norton, Yoko Ono, Koyu Rankin, Liev Schreiber, Tilda Swinton, Akira Takayama & Frank Wood. The film is set in Japan and follows a boy’s odyssey in search of his dog.

Keegan DeWitt to Score Brett Haley’s ‘Hearts Beat Loud’
Keegan DeWitt has been tapped to score the upcoming movie musical Hearts Beat Loud. He has also composed four original songs for the movie directed by Brett Haley and starring Nick Offerman, Kiersey Clemons, Ted Danson, Sasha Lane, Blythe Danner and Toni Collette. The movie revolves around a father and daughter who form an unlikely songwriting duo in the last summer before she leaves for college. Haley also co-wrote the screenplay with Marc Basch. Houston King (Results), Sam Bisbee (Robot & Frank, Cop Car) and Sam Slater (Drinking Buddies, Adult Beginners) are producing the project.
John Powell to Score ‘Han Solo’ Movie
Lucasfilm announced today that John Powell will score the untitled Han Solo movie. The film is directed by Ron Howard who took over directing duties from Chris Miller and Phil Lord and stars Alden Ehrenreich in the title role, alongside Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Joonas Suotamo. Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Return of the Jedi) and Jon Kasdan wrote the screenplay. Kathleen Kennedy is producing the project with Allison Shearmur and Simon Emanuel.
Will & Brooke Blair to Score Jeremy Saulnier’s ‘Hold the Dark’
Will Blair and Brooke Blair are reteaming with director Jeremy Saulnier on the upcoming thriller Hold the Dark. The film starring Alexander Skarsgard, James Badge Dale, Jeffrey Wright, Riley Keough and James Bloor is set in a remote Alaskan wilderness in which wolves have taken and killed children and follows a biologist who tracks down a young child. Saulnier also co-wrote the screenplay with the composers’ brother Macon Blair (I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore). Russell Ackerman and John Schoenfelder are producing the project with Eva Maria Daniels, Anish Savjani & Neil Kopp (Wendy and Lucy, Certain Women).
Stephen Warbeck Scoring Richard Eyre’s ‘The Children Act’
Stephen Warbeck has recently recorded his score for the upcoming drama The Children Act. The film is directed by Richard Eyre (Notes on a Scandal, Iris) and stars Emma Thompson, Stanley Tucci and Fionn Whitehead. The movie is based on the novel of the same title by Ian McEwan (Atonement, On Chesil Beach, The Good Son) and follows an eminent High Court judge in London who is forced to deal with the case of a brilliant boy who, three months from his 18th birthday and still legally a child, is refusing the blood transfusion that will save his life. McEwan also wrote the screenplay.
Emilie Simon Scoring John Turturro’s ‘Going Places’
French singer/songwriter and composer Emilie Simon has recently composed the original music for the upcoming crime comedy Going Places. The film is written and directed by John Turturro who also stars in the movie alongside Miou-Miou, Gérard Depardieu, Patrick Dewaere, Bobby Cannavale, Audrey Tautou and Susan Sarandon. The movie is inspired by Bertrand Blier’s 1974 French film of the same title and stars Turturro as iconic bowler Jesus Quintana, whom he also portrayed in the Coen Brothers’ 1998 feature The Big Lebowski. Sidney Kimmel (Hell or High Water, The Lincoln Lawyer), John Penotti (Uptown Girls), Robert Salerno (21 Grams, A Single Man), Fernando Sulichin (Snowden) and Paul-Dominique Vacharasinthu are producing the project.
We Are Dark Angels Scoring Paul Schrader’s ‘First Reformed’
We Are Dark Angels (aka Deantoni Parks & Nicci Kasper) are reteaming with director Paul Schrader on the upcoming drama First Reformed. The film is written and directed by Schrader (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Affliction) and stars Ethan Hawke, Amanda Seyfried, Michael Gaston and Cedric the Entertainer. The movie centers on the relationship between an ex-military chaplain who is wrecked by grief over the death of his son and a member of his church whose husband commits suicide. Gary Hamilton (A Few Best Men), David Hinojosa (Beatriz at Dinner, Goat), Victoria Hill, Frank Murray and Christine Vachon (Boys Don’t Cry, Still Alice) are producing the Killer Films production.
Agatha Kaspar Scoring Mark Raso’s ‘Kodachrome’
Agatha Kaspar has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming drama Kodachrome. The film is directed by Mark Raso and stars Jason Sudeikis, Ed Harris, Elizabeth Olsen, Bruce Greenwood and Dennis Haysbert. The movie is based on the 2010 New York Time article For Kodachrome Fans, Road Ends at Photo Lab in Kansas by A.G. Sulzberger and centers on a father and son who take a road trip to Kansas in order to develop photographs at Kodak’s last Kodachrome lab before it closes its doors for good.
Marcelo Zarvos to Score Nicole Holofcener’s ‘The Land of Steady Habits’
Marcelo Zarvos is reuniting with director Nicole Holofcener on the upcoming comedy drama The Land of Steady Habits. The film is written and directed by Holofcener and stars Ben Mendelsohn, Edie Falco, Connie Britton and Thomas Mann. The movie is based on the novel by Ted Thompson and centers on a man in his fifties who implodes in the middle of affluent Connecticut life by leaving his wife. When he realizes he’s made a mistake, he tries to redeem his personal and professional missteps. Anthony Bregman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Foxcatcher, Begin Again) and Stefanie Azpiazu are producing the project for Likely Story.
Mark Kilian Scoring ‘S.M.A.R.T. Chase’
Mark Kilian has recently composed the music for the upcoming action thriller S.M.A.R.T. Chase. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Charles Martin (Marcella, Skins) and stars Orlando Bloom, Lei Wu and Simon Yam. The movie revolves around a a washed-up private security agent who gets ambushed as he attempts to escort a pricey Chinese antique out of Shanghai. Kevin Bernhardt (Peaceful Warrior, Elephant White) wrote the screenplay. Ben Pugh (The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Welcome to the Punch) and Wei Han (The King’s Daughter) are producing the Bliss Media production.
