Jed Kurzel is reteaming with Jennifer Kent on the upcoming period thriller The Nightingale. The film is written and directed by Kent and stars Sam Claflin, Aisling Franciosi, Damon Herriman, Ewen Leslie, Harry Greenwood, Aboriginal Djuki Mala, Baykali Ganambarr and Magnolia Maymuru. The movie is set in Tasmania, Australia in 1825 and follows an Irish female convict who witnesses the brutal murder of her husband and baby by her soldier master and his cronies and takes an Aboriginal male tracker with her through the hellish wilderness to seek revenge on the men.

The Newton Brothers Scoring Ben Young’s ‘Extinction’
The Newton Brothers are currently scoring the upcoming sci-fi thriller Extinction. The film is directed by Ben Young (Hounds of Love) and stars Michael Peña, Lizzy Caplan, Mike Colter, Lilly Aspell, Emma Booth and Israel Broussard. The movie follows a father who suffers from a recurring dream about the loss of his family while witnessing the force bent on destruction. Eric Heisserer (Arrival, Lights Out), Spenser Cohen and Bradley Caleb Kane (Black Sails) wrote the screenplay. Todd Lieberman & David Hoberman (Beauty and the Beast, The Fighter, The Proposal) are producing the project for Mandeville Films.
Harry Gregson-Williams Scoring ‘Early Man’
Aardman Animations co-founder Peter Lord confirmed on Twitter that Harry Gregson-Williams is currently recording his score for the upcoming animated feature Early Man. The music is being recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London. The movie is directed by Nick Park (Chicken Run, The Curse of the Were-Rabbit) and features the voice talent of Eddie Redmayne, Tom Hiddleston, Maisie Williams, Timothy Spall and Richard Ayoade. The film tells the story of a courageous caveman and his best friend as they unite his tribe against a mighty enemy and his Bronze Age City to save their home.
Keegan DeWitt Scoring Hannah Fidell’s ‘The Long Dumb Road’
Keegan DeWitt is scoring the upcoming indie comedy The Long Dumb Road. The film is directed by Hannah Fidell (A Teacher, 6 Years) and stars Jason Mantzoukas, Tony Revolori, Grace Gummer, Taissa Farmiga, Ron Livingston, Casey Wilson, Ciara Bravo, Annie Lederman and Pamela Reed. The movie follows two guys who serendipitously meet at a time when they both find themselves at personal crossroads and decide to embark on an unplanned road trip across the American Southwest. Fidell also co-wrote the screenplay with Carson Mell (Silicon Valley) and is producing the project with Jacqueline Ingram, Jonathan Duffy and Kelly Williams.
Joseph Trapanese Co-Scoring ‘The Greatest Showman’
Joseph Trapanese is credited as co-composer of the original score for the upcoming movie musical The Greatest Showman. He joined John Debney who was announced as the score composer earlier this year. Trapanese also produced several of the original songs written for the film by Benj Pasek & Justin Paul. As previously reported, a soundtrack album featuring the songs will be released on December 8 by Atlantic Records. The Greatest Showman is directed by Michael Gracey and stars Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson and Zendaya. The movie is inspired by the imagination of P.T. Barnum and revolves around a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation.
Marcelo Zarvos to Score Robin Bissell’s ‘The Best of Enemies’
Marcelo Zarvos is composing the music for the upcoming drama The Best of Enemies. The film marks the directorial debut of executive producer Robin Bissell (The Hunger Games) and stars Sam Rockwell, Taraji P. Henson, Babou Ceesay, Nick Searcy, Anne Heche, Wes Bentley and John Gallagher Jr. The movie centers on civil rights activist Ann Atwater who battled KKK leader C.P. Ellis for a decade until 1971, when the two agreed to co-chair a two-week community meeting to deal with a court-ordered school desegregation decree.
Joseph Trapanese Scoring ‘Arctic’
Joseph Trapanese is composing the music for the upcoming thriller Arctic. The film is directed by Joe Penna and stars Mads Mikkelsen as a man stranded in the Arctic who must decide whether to remain in the relative safety of his camp or embark on a deadly trek through the unknown for potential salvation. Penna also co-wrote the screenplay with Ryan Morrison. Chris Lemole & Tim Zajaros (Mudbound, Zombeavers) and Noah C. Haeussner are producing the Armory Films, Union Entertainment Group and Pegasus Pictures production.
Charlie Mole to Score Oliver Parker’s ‘Swimming with Men’
Charlie Mole is reuniting with director Oliver Parker on the upcoming British comedy Swimming with Men. The film stars Rob Brydon, Jim Carter, Jane Horrocks, Adeel Akhtar, Daniel Mays, Charlotte Riley, Thomas Turgoose, Rupert Graves and Nathaniel Parker. The movie tells the story of a man suffering a mid-life crisis who finds new meaning to his life as part of an all-male, middle-aged, amateur synchronized swimming team. Aschlin Ditta (Scenes of a Sexual Nature) wrote the screenplay inspired by the 2010 documentary Men Who Swim.
Nate Heller Scoring Marielle Heller’s ‘Can You Ever Forgive Me?’
Nate Heller is reteaming with director Marielle Heller to score the upcoming comedy Can You Ever Forgive Me?. The film starring Melissa McCarthy, Richard E. Grant, Jane Curtin, Dolly Wells, Anna Deavere Smith and Jennifer Westfeldt is based on Lee Israel’s memoir of the same title and revolves around the journalist who had fallen on hard times in the early 90s and began selling letters that she had forged from deceased writers and actors. Nicole Holofcener (Enough Said, Friends with Money) wrote the screenplay. Anne Carey (Mr. Holmes, Adventureland, The American) and Amy Nauiokas (10’000 Saints) are producing the project with David Yarnell.
Patrick Doyle to Score Kenneth Branagh’s ‘Artemis Fowl’
Patrick Doyle confirmed in an interview with HeyUGuys at the world premiere of Murder on the Orient Express in London this week that he will be reteaming with Kenneth Branagh on the director’s upcoming film adaptation of Artemis Fowl. The movie is based on Eoin Colfer’s children’s books, which follow the 12-year-old criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl II, whose plot to extort gold from the secret Fairy People puts him directly in the crosshairs of some of the most dangerous creatures on earth.
