Roger Neill is scoring the upcoming family drama A Kid Like Jake. The film is directed by Silas Howard and stars Jim Parsons, Claire Danes, Ocatavia Spencer, Ann Dowd, Michaela Watkins and Priyanka Chopra. The movie follows a Brooklyn couple trying to raise their 4-year-old-son who prefers to dress up as a princess instead of G.I. Joe. Daniel Pearle wrote the screenplay based on his 2013 stage play. Parsons is also producing the project with Todd Spiewak (Young Sheldon), Eric Norsoph, Paul Bernon (Drinking Buddies, Adult Beginners) and Rachel Song.

Matthew Margeson is reteaming with director Jeff Wadlow on the upcoming supernatural thriller Truth or Dare. The film starring Lucy Hale, Tyler Posey, Violett Beane, Nolan Gerard Funk, Hayden Szeto and Sophia Taylor Ali centers on a harmless game of “Truth or Dare” among friends that turns deadly when someone – or something – begins to punish those who tell a lie or refuse the dare. Jason Blum (Get Out, Split, Paranormal Activity, Insidious, The Purge) is producing the project through his Blumhouse production company.

Alexandra Harwood has been tapped to score the upcoming romantic drama The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. The film is directed by Mike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Donnie Brasco) and stars Lily James, Michiel Huisman, Glen Powell, Matthew Goode, Jessica Brown Findlay, Tom Courtenay and Penelope Wilton. The movie is based on Mary Ann Shaffer’s & Annie Barrows’ 2008 novel and follows a free-spirited journalist who forms a life-changing bond with the eccentric society when she decides to write about the book club they formed during the German occupation of Guernsey during World War II.
Heitor Pereira to Score ‘Smallfoot’
Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that Heitor Pereira will be composing the music for the upcoming animated feature Smallfoot. The film is directed by Karey Kirkpatrick (Over the Hedge) and features the voices of Channing Tatum, James Corden, Zendaya, Common, LeBron James, Gina Rodriguez, Danny DeVito, Yara Shahidi, Ely Henry and Jimmy Tatro. The movie centers on a Yeti who is convinced that the elusive creatures known as “humans” really do exist. Bonne Radford (The Road to El Dorado), Glenn Ficarra & John Requa (Crazy, Stupid, Love, This is Us) are producing the project.
Danny Elfman to Score Illumination’s ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’
Danny Elfman is set to score the upcoming animated feature How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The film is directed by Pete Candeland & Yarrow Cheney (The Secret Life of Pets) and stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of the title character. The movie is based on Dr. Seuss’ classic tale about the titular grouch who plots to ruin Christmas for the residents of his neighboring village of Whoville. Michael LeSieur (You, Me and Dupree) wrote the screenplay. Chris Meledandri & Janet Healy (Despicable Me, Minions, The Lorax) and Scott Mosier (Free Birds, Dogma, Clerks) are producing the Illumination Entertainment production.

Grammy Award winner Nora Kroll-Rosenbaum (Stockholm, Pennsylvania, Regarding Susan Sontag) has been hired to score the upcoming dramatic thriller Painkillers. The film is directed by Roxy Shih (The Tribe) and stars Adam Huss, Madeline Zima, Grant Bowler, Debra Wilson and Mischa Barton. The movie follows a brilliant surgeon who, after a terrible car crash in which his son dies, is tormented by guilt. When his marriage starts to disintegrate, he soon finds out that the only thing that can ease his pain is the taste of human blood. Giles Daoust wrote the screenplay.
Nicholas Britell to Score Adam McKay’s ‘Backseat’
Nicholas Britell is reuniting with Adam McKay on the upcoming biographical drama Backseat. The film is written and directed by McKay and stars Christian Bale as Dick Cheney, alongside Amy Adams, Steve Carell, Sam Rockwell, Bill Pullman, Adam Bartley, Tyler Perry, Alison Pill and Lily Rabe. The movie chronicles Cheney’s rise to CEO of the multinational corporation Halliburton and finally becoming what some have called the most powerful U.S. vice president ever to hold office. McKay is also producing the project with Will Ferrell & Kevin Messick (Daddy’s Home) for Gary Sanchez and Brad Pitt & Dede Gardner (12 Years a Slave, Selma, World War Z) for Plan B.

The movie is based on Martha Coolidge’s 1983 romantic comedy of the same title and follows a Fernando Valley girl whose world and values are rocked when she falls hard for a rock musician. Amy Talkington wrote the screenplay with revisions by Marti Noxon (UnREAL, Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

The film is directed by Ben Lewin (The Sessions) and stars Paul Rudd, Sienna Miller, Guy Pearce, Paul Giamatti, Jeff Daniels, Mark Strong, Tom Wilkinson, Connie Nielsen and Hiroyuki Sanada.
