Lorne Balfe has been tapped to score the upcoming documentary Studio 54. The film is directed by Matt Tyrnauer (Citizen Jane: Battle for the City) and centers on on the pulsating epicenter of 1970s hedonism: a disco hothouse of beautiful people, drugs, and sex. The movie follows club owners Ian Schrager and Steve Rubell – two best friends from Brooklyn who conquered New York City – as they frame this history of the “greatest club of all time.” Tyrnauer is also producing the project with John Battsek (Searching for Sugar Man, How I Live Now, Restrepo) and Corey Reeser.

Rodrigo Amarante Scoring Jose Padilha’s ‘7 Days in Entebbe’
Brazilian singer/songwriter Rodrigo Amarante has recently composed the music for the upcoming thriller 7 Days in Entebbe. The film is directed by Jose Padilha (Enemy Squad, RoboCop) and stars Rosamund Pike, Daniel Brühl, Eddie Marsan, Ben Schnetzer, Lior Ashkenazi and Denis Ménochet. The movie is inspired by the true events of the 1976 hijacking of an Air France flight en route from Tel Aviv to Paris Gregory Burke (’71) wrote the screenplay. Tim Bevan & Eric Fellner (Atonement, The Theory of Everything, Baby Driver, Les Miserables) are producing the Working Title Films production with Kate Solomon (The Program), Michelle Wright and Ron Halpern (The Gunman).
Thomas Adès Scoring Wash Westmoreland’s ‘Colette’
Thomas Adès is currently scoring the upcoming biographical drama Colette. The film is directed by Wash Westmoreland (Still Alice, Quinceañera) and stars Keira Knightley, Dominic West, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, Elinor Tomlinson and Aiysha Hart. The movie revolves around the French novelist (author of Gigi and Cheri) who overcomes an abusive marriage to emerge as a leading writer in turn-of-the-century Paris and a candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature. Westmoreland also wrote the screenplay with Richard Glatzer and Rebecca Lemkowicz (Ida, Disobedience).
Hauschka to Score Baltasar Kormakur’s ‘Adrift’
Hauschka (aka Volker Bertelmann) has signed on to score the upcoming survival drama Adrift. The film is directed by Baltasar Kormakur (Everest, 2 Guns, Contraband) and stars Shailene Woodley and Sam Claflin. The movie tells the true story of Tami Oldham, who, after being knocked unconscious by the largest hurricane in the history of the Pacific Ocean, awakens to find her fiancé badly injured, their boat in ruins, and no means of communication or navigation. Aaron & Jordan Kandell (Moana) wrote the screenplay and are also producing the project with Kormakur.
Kevin Lax Scoring Netflix’s ‘Juanita’
Kevin Lax is scoring the upcoming Netflix original movie Juanita. The film is directed by Clark Johnson (S.W.A.T., The Sentinel) and stars Alfre Woodard, Blair Underwood, Adam Beach, Marcus Henderson and LaTanya Richardson. The drama is based on Sheila Williams’ book Dancing on the Edge of the Roof and centers around a woman who is fed up with her deadbeat grown kids and marginal urban existence and takes a Greyhound bus to Montana, where she reinvents herself and finds her mojo. Roderick Spencer wrote the screenplay.
Brian Tyler to Score Stephanie Soechtig’s ‘The Devil We Know’
Brian Tyler is reteaming with director Stephanie Soechtig on the upcoming documentary The Devil We Know. The movie centers on one of the biggest environmental scandals of our time, as a group of citizens in West Virginia take on a powerful corporation after they discover it has knowingly been dumping a toxic chemical – now found in the blood of 99.7% of Americans – into the local drinking water supply. Soechtig (Fed Up) is also producing the project with Kristin Lazure, Joshua Kunau and Carly Palmour. Tyler has previously collaborated with filmmaker on the 2016 documentary Under the Gun.
Hans Zimmer Scoring Don Argott’s ‘Believer’
Hans Zimmer has been tapped to score the upcoming documentary Believer. The film is directed by Don Argott (Last Days Here, The Art of the Steal) and follows Imagine Dragons’ Mormon frontman Dan Reynolds as he is taking on a new mission to explore how the church treats its LGBTQ members with the rising suicide rate amongst teens in the state of Utah. Reynolds is also contributing two original songs to the movie. Heather Parry (Just Go With It, Gaga: Five Foot Two), Sheena M. Joyce (Batman & Bill) and Robert Reynolds are producing the project.
Rob Simonsen Scoring Greg Berlanti’s ‘Love, Simon’
Rob Simonsen is currently recording his score for the upcoming coming-of-age drama Love, Simon. The film is directed by Greg Berlanti (Life As We Know It, Everwood) and stars Nick Robinson, Katherine Langford, Alexandra Shipp, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Miles Heizer, Keiynan Lonsdale, Logan Miller, Jennifer Garner, Josh Duhamel and Tony Hale. The movie is based on Becky Albertalli’s 2015 book Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda and centers on a gay teenager, who, after an email written by him falls into the wrong hands, is forced to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before being pushed out.
Max Richter Scoring Yann Demange’s ‘White Boy Rick’
Max Richter is currently recording his score for the upcoming drama White Boy Rick. The film is directed by Yann Demange (’71) and stars Matthew McConaughey, Richie Merritt, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Rory Cochrane, Brian Tyree Henry, Bruce Dern, R.J. Cyler, Kyanna Simone Simpson and Bel Powley. The movie is set in 1980s Detroit at the height of the crack epidemic and tells the true story of Ricky Wershe who became an undercover informant at the age of 14 before becoming a major dealer – until he was arrested at age 17. Logan & Noah Miller (Sweetwater) wrote the screenplay with revisions by Andy Weiss (Middle Men), Scott Silver (The Fighter, 8 Mile) and Steve Kloves (Harry Potter series, The Amazing Spider-Man).
Jean-Paul Wall Scoring ‘Spinning Man’
Jean-Paul Wall is scoring the upcoming psychological thriller Spinning Man. The film is directed by Simon Kaijser (Stockholm East) and stars Guy Pearce, Pierce Brosnan, Minnie Driver, Clark Gregg, Alexandra Shipp, Odeya Rush and Jamie Kennedy. The movie follows a charming professor who appears to be living an idyllic life until a young woman goes missing and he struggles to come up with an alibi to clear his name. Matt Aldrich (Coco) wrote the screenplay based on a novel by George Harrar. Ellen S. Wander (Misconduct) and Keith Arnold are producing the project.
