Thomas Adès is currently scoring the upcoming biographical drama Colette. The film is directed by Wash Westmoreland (Still Alice, Quinceañera) and stars Keira Knightley, Dominic West, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, Elinor Tomlinson and Aiysha Hart. The movie revolves around the French novelist (author of Gigi and Cheri) who overcomes an abusive marriage to emerge as a leading writer in turn-of-the-century Paris and a candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature. Westmoreland also wrote the screenplay with Richard Glatzer and Rebecca Lemkowicz (Ida, Disobedience). Pamela Koffler & Christine Vachon (Boys Don’t Cry, One Hour Photo), Elizabeth Karlsen (Carol, Their Finest) and Stephen Woolley (The Crying Game, Interview with the Vampire) are producing the project. Adès is best known as the composer of numerous concert pieces and operas (including Powder Her Face and The Tempest). Colette marks his major feature film scoring debut. The drama will premiere next month at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival.
