Walt Disney Pictures confirmed today that Hans Zimmer will be returning to score the studio’s upcoming remake of The Lion King. The film is directed by Jon Favreau (The Jungle Book, Iron Man) and stars Donald Glover, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, James Earl Jones, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, JD McCrary, Shahadi Wright Joseph, John Kani, John Oliver, Seth Rosen, Billy Eichner and Keegan-Michael Key. Jeff Nathanson (Catch Me If You Can) penned the screenplay. Favreau is also producing the project with Jeffrey Silver (Beauty and the Beast) and Karen Gilchrist.

Harry Gregson-Williams to Return for ‘The Equalizer 2’
Harry Gregson-Williams is set to reunite with Antoine Fuqua on the upcoming action thriller sequel The Equalizer 2. The film stars Denzel Washington, Melissa Leo and Bill Pullman who reprise their characters from the original movie. They are joined by Pedro Pascal and Ashton Anders. Richard Wenk wrote the screenplay. Jason Blumenthal & Todd Black (The Pursuit of Happyness, Seven Pounds), Washington, Steve Tisch (Forrest Gump, Mace Neufeld (Patriot Games, Invictus), Alex Siskin and Tony Eldridge are producing the project.
James Edward Barker to Score Scott Mann’s ‘Final Score’
James Edward Barker has been hired to score the upcoming action thriller Final Score. The film is directed by Scott Mann and stars Dave Bautista, Pierce Brosnan, Alexandra Dinu, Ray Stevenson and Julian Cheung. The movie follows an ex-soldier who must use all his military skills to save a 35,000 capacity crowd stadium that is seized during a sporting event by a group of heavily armed criminals. The Brothers Lynch wrote the screenplay with Jonathan Frank (The Tournament). Marc Goldberg is producing the project with Robert Jones (Dirty Pretty Things, Centurion), James Harris & Mark Lane (47 Meters Down) and Wayne Marc Godfrey (The Foreigner).
Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans Scoring ‘A Vigilante’
Danny Bensi and Saunder Jurrriaans are composing the music for the upcoming crime thriller A Vigilante. The film is written and directed by Sarah Daggar-Nickson and stars Olivia Wilde, Tonye Patano, Betsy Aidem and David Shumbris. The movie centers on a woman who helps victims seeking revenge against their domestic abusers. Andrew D. Corkin (Emelie, Big Significant Things) Lars Knudsen (The Witch, American Honey, Beginners), Ambyr Childers, Wilde and Allison Carter are producing the project. A Vigilante is currently in post-production and is expected to premiere in 2018.
Tyler Bates to Score ‘Deadpool 2’
Tyler Bates has been tapped to score the upcoming superhero comedy sequel Deadpool 2. The film is directed by David Leitch and stars Ryan Reynolds in the title role, Josh Brolin as Cable, as well as Morena Baccarin, Leslie Uggams, Brianna Hildebrand, Stefan Kapičić, Shioli Kutsuna, Julian Dennison, Eddie Marsan, Zazie Beetz and Jack Kesy. Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick (Zombieland) who scripted the original movie wrote the screenplay. Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Martian), Lauren Shuler Donner (X-Men, Logan) and Reynolds return as the project’s producers.
Steve Jablonsky to Score ‘Game Over, Man!’
Steve Jablonsky (Transformers, Ender’s Game, The Island. Deepwater Horizon) has been tapped to score the upcoming Netflix original movie Game Over, Man!. The action comedy is directed by Kyle Newacheck (Workaholics) and stars Adam Devine, Anders Holm, Blake Anderson and Jere Burns. The film follows three friends who are on the verge of getting their video game financed when their benefactor is taken hostage by terrorists. Holm (Workaholics) also wrote the screenplay.
Victor Reyes Scoring Rodrigo Cortes’ ‘Down a Dark Hall’
Victor Reyes is currently recording his score for the upcoming supernatural drama Down a Dark Hall. The film is directed by Rodrigo Cortes and stars AnnaSophia Robb, Isabelle Fuhrman, Noah Silver, Rosie Day and Uma Thurman. The movie is based on the 1974 novel by Lois Duncan and follows a boarding school student who confronts the darkly seductive powers of the headmistress and comes face to face with the supernatural abilities that could make her all-powerful or destroy her. Chris Sparling (Buried, Mercy) and Michael Goldbach (Daydream Nation) wrote the screenplay.
Fil Eisler to Score ‘Proud Mary’
Fil Eisler has been hired to score the upcoming action thriller Proud Mary. The film is directed by Babak Najafi (London Has Fallen, Easy Money II: Hard to Kill) and stars Taraji P. Henson, Billy Brown, Jahi Di’Allo Winston and Danny Glover. The movie follows a hit woman working for an organized crime family in Boston, whose life is completely turned around when she meets a young boy whose path she crosses when a professional hit goes bad. John Stuart Newman & Christian Swegal and Steven Antin (Burlesque, Gloria) wrote the screenplay.
Christopher Tin to Score Ann Hu’s ‘Confetti’
Christopher Tin is set to compose the score for the upcoming indie drama Confetti. He is writing an original song for the film written and directed by Ann Hu (Shadow Magic) and starring Zhu Zhu, Amy Irving, Helen Slater and Harmonie Zhu. The movie follow a young woman trapped in a formulated society who tries everything to “normalize” her daughter’s hidden talent. Josh Green is producing the project for Jagman Productions, alongside Zhuo Shun Guo for Dragon Films .
Philip Klein Scoring Todd Robinson’s ‘The Last Full Measure’
Philip Klein is composing the music for the upcoming political drama The Last Full Measure. The film is written and directed by Todd Robinson (White Squall, Phantom) and stars Sebastian Stan, Christopher Plummer, William Hurt, Samuel L. Jackson, Grant Gustin, Bradley Whitford, Michael Imperioli and Linus Roache. The movie follows a young Pentagon investigator who reluctantly teams with veterans of the 1966 Operation Abilene to convince Congress to award the Medal of Honor to a courageous Air Force medic who is seen saving the lives of over 60 Marines ambushed during the Vietnam War.
